Also present: Mayor Bowers, Seeber, Wright, Penaluna. It was moved by Klinger, seconded by Getty that the request of the Personnel Department to purchase an Olympia Word Processor from Iowa Business Machines in the amount of $1 ,926.00, be approved. Motion carried. It was moved by Getty, seconded by Klinger that the request of the Recreation Commission to purchase a jeep from Dick Witham Chevrolet in the amount of $4,875.00 be approved. Motion carried. It was moved by Dowie, seconded by Getty that the request of the Superintendent of Traffic Signals to purchase 85 GE tubes for moduvac type controllers be approved. Motion carried. It was moved by Getty, seconded by Klinger that the request of the City Planner to paint office furniture in an amount of $810.00 (RTW Electrostatic Painting Co.) be approved. Motion carried. This item will be paid from the City Hall maintenance budget. The request of the Rath Packing Company Employees Reorganization Committee for City funds in the amount of $15,000 was reviewed. Committee members reported that the money would be used for only the purposes of reopening the plant and putting people back to work. The Reorganization Committee has been working with a Texas native, Gerry Burns of G.N.B. Investment Bankers who has been working on a financing package for reopening the plant. The Committee stated their willingness to sign an agreement with the City on repayment of the money should their plan succeed. Mayor Bowers suggested that the City remain non-committal until such time as the bankruptcy judge renders an opinion in the case. Councilperson Seeber stated that the City awes the Committee this chance; Councilperson Getty stated that it was a small price to pay if jobs could be regained. It was moved by Klinger, seconded by Dowie that the Finance Committee recommend to the City Council that this issue be tabled until such time as the Council has the opportunity to meet with Brian Burns on April 9, 1985 at 7:00 p.m. in the City Hall Council Chambers and instruct the Clerk/Auditor to post notice of same.
