One new business item was added to the Agenda that being the emergency construction of fencing to eliminate safety hazard at East Sixth Street Lift Station by the City Engineer. It was moved by Seeber, seconded by Miller that the Agenda, as amended, be approved. Motion carried. The following bids were reviewed for office equipment maintenance contract: Bidder: Simpson 's Business Machine Center, Inc. --Monthly Price: $154.17 --Yearly Price: $1,850.00 Iowa Business Machines, Inc. --Monthly Price: $365.05 --Yearly Price: $3,889.50 It was the recommendation of the Clerk/Auditor's office not to accept the bid of Simpson's Business Machine Center, Inc. , because the company was unable to bid on all the specified equipment; therefore, it was the recommendation to accept the bid of Iowa Business Machines, Inc. It was moved by Seeber, seconded by Miller that this recommendation be approved. Motion carried. The request of the Superintendent of Streets for authorization to rent a Caterpillar joint milling machine for an additional month at a cost of $6,000.00 was reviewed. This milling machine is being used in conjunction with joint repair and the maintenance of City streets. Several months ago, authorization was given to rent the machine for two months but Mr. Thorson indicated that additional work could be completed this construction year using this machine. The entire rental of this machine will be funded from general obligation bond proceeds. Councilperson Miller asked whether the department would be requesting the lease of this machine a fourth month. Mr. Thorson indicated that he may return to the committee to make this request. It was moved by Seeker, seconded by Dowie that authorization be given to the Street Department to extend the rental period for one month on a Caterpillar joint milling machine at a cost of $6,000.00. Motion carried. Eric Thorson, City Engineer, requested authorization to make an emergency repair to construct a fence around the East Sixth Street Lift Station. There have been reports that children have been playing near the electrical transformers that sit on top of the lift station causing a serious safety hazard. Several bids have been obtained ranging in price from $2,500.00 to $3,200.00. Both bidders have indicated that materials for the fencing may take thirty (30) days to receive. The committee asked that additional measures be taken in the interim to assure the safety of individuals at the site. It was moved by Miller, seconded by Dowie that the City Engineer be authorized to take the low bid for this fencing material . Motion carried. It was moved by Miller, seconded by Seeber that the A900 Report for August 18, 1986 pp. 1-12 and that the A900 Report for Manual Warrants from August 6 to August 15, 1986, pp. 1-14 be recommended to the Council for approval .
