Members present: Dowie, Bowers, Roehr and Getty
Renovation of the third floor of the Waterloo Public Library for use
by the Cedar Arts Forum was discussed. Councilman Bowers reported
that the Senior Community Service Employment Program had also
requested use of one (1) room on the third floor. They have provided
manpower to the City in the operation of the parking ramps. It was
moved by Wilharm, seconded by Bowers to authorize the taking of bids
for said renovation, with space for the Senior Community Service
Employment Program to be included as an alternate. Motion carried.
Establishment of income guidelines for persons eligible for garbage
exemption for calendar year 1984 was discussed. Deputy
Clerk/Auditor, Michelle Temeyer, reported that the only current
requirement was that the household income not exceed $7,000/year.
(Income includes items such as social security, pension, interest,
ADC. , etc. ) Discussion was heard on establishing an age minimum or
number of family members for possible additional eligibility
requirements for exemption. Random verification of income was
encouraged. It was moved by Roehr, seconded by Wilharm to establish
a minimum income of $7,000 per year for all household members to
qualify for garbage exemption for calendar year 1984. Motion
carried.
Contracting with a private hauler for removal of garbage from City
Hall was discussed. Alternates to a contract were discussed
including use of the City's Sanitation Department. It was moved by
Roehr, seconded by Wilharm to delay action indefinitely pertaining to
trash removal for City Hall . Motion carried.
The request of the Fire Department to purchase a Video Camera in the
amount of $1,000.00 from Davis Electronics was discussed. It was
moved by Bowers, seconded by Wilharm to approve said request. Motion
carried.
With no further business before the Committee, the meeting was
adjourned.
