COUNCIL WORK SESSION

Roll Call.
Members present: Mayor Quent Hart in the Chair, Boesen, Nichols, Grieder, Wilder and Feuss.
Absent: Mr. Chiles and Ms. Creighton -Smith.
Approve agenda, as proposed or amended.
Feuss/Grieder
that the agenda, as proposed or amended, be approved. Voice vote -Ayes: Four. Motion carried.
Approval of Minutes of May 1, 2023, as proposed or amended.

that the minutes of May 1, 2023 Council Work Session, as proposed, be approved. Voice vote -
Ayes: Four. Motion carried.
Discussion of a Climate Action Plan with UNI's Center for Energy and Environmental Education.
Mr. Grieder introduced Kamyar Enshayan, Director, Center for Energy & Environmental
Education and Ashley Coffin, Program Director, Green Iowa AmeriCorps. https://ceee.uni.edu/
The speakers provided an overview of the programs offered by the University of Northern
Iowa's Center for Energy and Environment (CEEE).
Ms. Creighton -Smith arrived during the presentation.
Mr. Grieder discussed some ideas he has for where CEEE could be a partnership with the City
of Waterloo.
Mr. Nichols questioned the capacity to expand the garden program in Waterloo.
Kamyar Enshayan explained that he has been working with Todd Derifield of Leisure Services
on locating spaces in parks to expand the program.
Mayor Hart commented that council will be voting tonight on a resolution to adopt the Smart
City Plan developed with Honeywell, which does include climate action. Once the council has
decided if they wish to move forward, we will reach back out, revisit the proclamation and go
into further development.
