POWERS AND DUTIES GENERALLY, OF THE CITY OF WATERLOO CODE OF ORDINANCES, BY ADDING THERETO THE FOLLOWING SECTION (G) , SUBPOENA POWER. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WATERLOO, IOWA, that: Chapter 20, Human Relations, Sub-Section 20-18. Powers and Duties Generally, be amended by adding thereto the following Section (g) , Subpoena Power: (g) To petition, through the Office of the City Attorney, the District Court having jurisdiction for the issuance of subpoenas to compel the attendance of witnesses at hearings and to compel such witnesses to produce for examination any books and papers relating to matters involved in any complaint or hearing. The respondent may also request that the Commission petition the District Court for issuance of a subpoena on his or her behalf. Failure to comply with or obey such subpoena shall render the witness liable for contempt as provided in the Code of Iowa.
