ORDINANCE NO. 2617
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 23 OF ORDINANCE NO.
2203 KNOWN AS THE TRAFFIC ORDINANCE, BY REPEALING
SUB-SECTION 3, RED ALONE OR "STOP" AND ENACTING IN
LIEU THEREOF A NEW SUB-SECTION 3, RED ALONE OR
"STOP" AND RIGHT TURN AFTER STOP, PROVIDING FOR
RIGHT TURNS AFTER STOPPING AT CERTAIN INTERSECTIONS.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WATERLOO, IOWA, as follows:
That Section 23 of Ordinance No. 2203 known as the Traffic Ordinance,
be amended by repealing in its entirety Sub-section 3, Red Alone or "Stop"
and enacting in lieu thereof the following new Sub-section 3, Red Alone or
"Stop" and Right Turn After Stop:
3. Red Alone or "Stop" and Right Turn After Stop. Vehicular
traffic facing a steady red signal alone shall stop at a clearly
marked stop line, but if none, before entering the cross walk on
the near side of the intersection, or if none, then before entering
the intersection, and shall remain standing until an indication to
proceed is shown. A right turn shall be permitted at an intersection
by vehicular traffic which has come to a complete stop, whenever a
sign is in place permitting such turn. Any right turn made pursuant
to this subsection shall be made in such a manner that it does not
interfere with other vehicular or pedestrian traffic lawfully using
the intersection.
No pedestrian facing such signal shall enter the roadway unless
he can do so safely and without interfering with any vehicular
traffic, but a vehicle turning right at such intersection shall
yield the right of way to a pedestrian lawfully entering such inter-
section.
Right turns shall be permitted after stopping at the following
intersections:
West 4th and Locust
West 3rd and Locust
West 4th and Bayard
Campbell and Fletcher
Williston and West 9th
Williston and West llth
Williston and Baltimore
West 18th and Commercial
Lafayette and Vinton
Commercial and West llth
Jefferson and West llth
Logan Avenue and Donald
Falls Avenue and Ansborough
Falls Avenue and Cleveland
