HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes of 4.26.2023MEMORIAL HALL COMMISSION April 26, 2023 5:00 p.m. Veterans Memorial Hall Members present: Craig White in the Chair, Mike Hudson, Randy Miller, Mel Wittwer, Marilyn Robinson, Frank McCaw, James Lentfer, Mike Mrzlak, John Mrzlak, David Grimm (A). Absent: Scott McDonald, Matt Carpenter (A), Angela Hickok (A), and Richard Berry (A). Also in Attendance: Richard Hurtado and Nancy Higby, Secretary, City of Waterloo. Moved by Miller, seconded by J. Mrzlak, that the Agenda be approved. Ayes: Ten. Motion carried. Moved by Miller, seconded by Grimm, that the Minutes of March 22, 2023, be approved. Ayes: Ten. Motion carried. Citizen's Oral Comments Richard Hurtado introduced Donna and Maryanne Volker of Stardust Productions. They provided an overview of their organization and the various way they can help with fundraising efforts. They commented that there will be a show at the Convention Center on May 19 & 20 and they invited the board to set up a table for brick sales. Business cards were passed out. Donna shared that they would be happy to come back and make a presentation at a future meeting. Jim Lentfer reviewed a list of building & ground concerns that might be considered for fundraising topics. He will speak further on this during his committee report. Treasurer's Report — Vacant Nancy Higby provided an update on the current fund balances as of April 19, 2023. Brick Fund - $7,078.15; Courbat Memorial Fund - $1,000.00; Special Projects Fund - $500.00; Artifacts Projects Fund - $163.99. Mel Wittwer explained that there is an additional invoice from Young Plumbing & Heating for $137.50, for the initial visit on 3/22/2023 to inspect and estimate the need for repairs. Moved by Wittwer, seconded by Miller, that the Treasurer's report be received and placed on file, and the invoice for $137.50 to Young Plumbing & Heating be approved for payment. Ayes: Ten. Motion carried. Chairperson's Report None. Committee Reports Building, Grounds & Operations — Chairperson Mel Wittwer Mel provided a brief overview on the status of the fountain and tuck -point repairs. Operations — Chairperson David Grimm David Grimm commented that the committee continues to work through the Operating Procedures. Recommendations will be forthcoming at a future meeting. Education/Historical — Chairperson Randall Miller None. Artifacts Preservation — Chairperson James Lentfer Jim Lentfer provided an update on the preservation efforts for the banner and flags. March 22, 2023 Page 2 Moved by Lentfer seconded by McCaw that the request to hold an Open House on Sunday, September 10, 2023 from Noon to 4:00 p.m., be approved. Ayes: Ten. Motion carried. Finance/Fundraising — None. Position vacant. Unfinished Business Jim Lentfer spoke on several issues that need to be addressed in regards to the building and grounds and that he had presented this list to the Veterans Way Randy Miller shared that he had previously requested permission to purchase a new mic stand for the Memorial Day service, but has decided not to pursue that after finding a work around with current equipment. Frank McCaw left the meeting at 5:45 p.m. New Business — David Grimm presented the proposed amendments to the Constitution and By -Laws via overhead projection. The board members discussed the amendments. Moved by Grimm, seconded by Wittwer, to approve the first reading of the amendments as proposed. Ayes: Nine. Motion carried. The discussion moved to the planning and details of the Memorial Day Parade and with no further business before the commission, it was moved by Miller, seconded by Wittwer, that the meeting be adjourned at 6:10 p.m. Ayes: Nine.
