RESOLUTION NO. 2024-021
RESOLUTION ESTABLISHING A SISTER CITY RELATIONSHIP
WITH MORANT BAY, ST. THOMAS, JAMAICA.
WHEREAS, the City of Waterloo has an existing relationship of friendship and
cooperation between the citizens of Waterloo and the citizens of Morant Bay, and
WHEREAS, Mayor Quentin Hart connected with Norman Grant Jr. at the Grow Cedar
Valley event and had subsequent conversations in June of 2023 to discuss establishing a sister
city relationship between Morant Bay, St. Thomas, Jamaica, and the City of Waterloo, Iowa, and
WHEREAS, the leaders of both communities desire a social friendship that promotes
development of academic and cultural relations between the two communities.
WHEREAS, The two parties are committed to promoting collaborative projects, mainly
focused on the following areas:
• Economic Development • Environment
• Cultural Heritage • Education
• Sports • Health
• Cooperation in strengthening the role of women in decision -making
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF THE CITY OF WATERLOO, IOWA, that the City of Waterloo, Iowa, hereby establishes a
sister city relationship with Morant Bay, St. Thomas, Jamaica, and looks forward to exchanging
economic, cultural, sports, environmental, educational, health and women's roles in decision -
making ideas.
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 161 day of January 2024.
