RESOLUTION NO. 2024-064 RESOLUTION APPROVING THE DONATION OF K-9 "AXE" TO HIS HANDLER, SERGEANT JORDAN EHLERS. WHEREAS, the City of Waterloo K-9 Unit consists of officers of the Waterloo Police Department and patrol service dogs, and WHEREAS, the Waterloo Police purchased a patrol service dog named "Axe" approximately ten and a half years ago, and WHEREAS, Sergeant Jordan Ehlers has been "Axe's" main handler during his service with the Waterloo K-9 Unit and is set to retire, and WHEREAS, "Axe" has rendered faithful performance and conducted himself in a most exemplary manner while serving as a member of the Waterloo K-9 Unit, and WHEREAS, Sergeant Ehlers requests that his K-9 partner retire with him as "Axe's", veterinarian has determined he has severe arthritis and should be retired immediately, and WHEREAS, Sergeant Ehlers has agreed to accept the donation of "Axe" and provide him with care and necessary upkeep and release the City of Waterloo of all liability, and WHEREAS, the Waterloo City Council is of the considered opinion that the retirement and donation of "Axe" to his main Waterloo Police handler is in the best interests of all parties concerned. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WATERLOO, IOWA, that the Waterloo City Council hereby authorizes the Waterloo Police Department to retire a K-9 known as "Axe" from the K-9 Unit and donate same to Waterloo Police Sergeant Jordan Ehlers, and his family.
