Land acquired by Israel during the Six Day war was returned to Egypt. Arab nations in the region were joining together as secular partners in peace. (Arab Israelis are 20 percent of Israel's population) 1978 Camp David Accords 1979 Egypt-Israel Peace Treaty 1993 Oslo Accords Including an agreement for the Palestinian Authority (Yasser Arafat)to have governing responsibility for Gaza and the West Bank. Goal was to have a sovereign Palestinian Statehood by 1999. 1994 Israel-Jordan Peace Treaty The rise of Islamic extremism. 1979-1981 Iran Hostage Crisis 1988 Hamas founded as off shoot of the Muslim Brotherhood. Funded, armed and trained by Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard. 1987-1993 First Intifada and Second Intifadas (2000-2005) by Hamas against Israel (an onslaught of continuous missile and terror attacks(ambushes, suicide bombers, etc.). Over 1,000 Israelis (700 civilians)killed. 1988 Al-Qaeda founded 1994 Taliban founded 2001 A-Qaeda attack on WTC and Pentagon(2,900 killed) 2006 Hamas seizes control over Gaza Gaza-Israel Security Barrier Beginning in 2001, Hamas began launching missiles from Gaza into Israel. From 2001 to 2024 they have fired tens of thousands of missiles at Israel (12,000 on October 7 alone). The UN, European Union, Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International have all condemned the attacks as violations of international law. During the First Intifada Israel constructed a security fence on the Gaza-Israeli border to help deter attacks by Hamas. In 2005 it was replaced by a seven meter fence and barbed wire. Egypt-Israel Security Barrier In 2009, Egypt builds a similar barrier along it's border with Gaza. Gaza's Under Hamas Rule A brutal regime of arbitrary imprisonments and tortures Israeli humanitarian aid, electricity, gas and water desalination Hamas constructs massive underground military installation beneath heavily populated civilian areas. Purpose of October 7 massacre: "following October 7, I believe that the dream and the hope for Palestine from the River to the Sea, and from the north to the south, has been renewed. This has also become a slogan chanted in the U.S." Rejection of Two State Solution and Destruction of Israel: "First, we have nothing to do with the two-state solution. We reject this notion, because it means you would get a promise for a [Palestinian] state, yet you are required to recognize the legitimacy of the other state, which is the Zionist entity.
