WHEREAS, the City Council encourages the voters of Black Hawk County to support the reauthorization of gaming at the Isle Casino Hotel Waterloo and vote Yes on the November 2, 2010 ballot. WHEREAS, the Isle, through the Black Hawk County Gaming Association: 1. Is a key tourism attraction and entertainment venue of the Cedar Valley; 2. Is an important employer, with nearly 600 employees serving visitors to the Cedar Valley; 3. Invested over $175 million so far in capital investments, without incentives, with the possibility of more growth as the market grows for the Isle; 4. Has become an important community participant through the Alliance & Chamber, United Way, and many other community and charitable organizations; 5. Supports Black Hawk County services through significant annual property tax payments; and 6. Supports the Cedar Valley of Iowa through over $6 million per year in funds distributed by Black Hawk County Gaming to general community, and charitable projects throughout the Cedar Valley economic area. WHEREAS, should the license expire without reauthorization, the Isle Casino Hotel complex and the Gaming Association will be forced to shut down, lacking a license to operate. This would be highly detrimental to the Cedar Valley economic base, put hundreds out of work, and impact the ability of Black Hawk County to provide services. The loss of the Isle's contributions in operational purchases and employment would tend to decrease wealth in the Cedar Valley. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WATERLOO, IOWA, that the Isle Casino Hotel and its associated Black Hawk County Gaming Association deserves our enthusiastic support. The officers and staff are directed to coordinate the public announcement of this resolution with similar actions through the Greater Cedar Valley Alliance.
