You are receiving this notice because the
City of Waterloo EngineeringDepartment a
stall have found sidewalk butting your
property that la In need of repair.
The city Is divided Into twelve (12( sidewalk
and Inspected on atwelve (12) year
zones and
years Inspected area is Zone 4
and Is bounded by :West Mullen Avenue
- Cedar River - West 181h Street - Willis-
ton Avenue -West 61h Street - Washington
Street -West Mullen Avenue.
The sidewalk panels that need repair have
been marked 'kith one o1 the following
symbols,
White paint circle — single sidewalk
panel replacement
White"X"— a sidewalk panel that
may need N be replaced because o1
possible tree roots.
White "F"— a sidewalk panel that can be
repaired

shown on the enclosed Sidewalk Inspec-
tion Report w11h the type of defect(s) ex-
plained on the back of that report and a
sidewalk repair cost estimate prepared by
the Engineering Department. This 1e an
estimate of repair cost and not a proposed
assessmentY ou may use this estimate to
compare with quotes you may receive from
private contractors It has been the City's
experience that the repair cast may beless
if the property owner contracts the repairs
'stead of having them done through the
Sidewalk Repair Assessment Program.
Property owners can voluntarily make the
repairs to their sidewalks that must meet
current city sidewalk specifications or hire
contractor to make the repairs A cur-
rent Right -at -Way bond Is needed to get a
rm peit. You can contact the Waterloo City
Engineer's office to determine if a
tractor has a rent Right-of-way bond.
The permit Is needed before making the
repairs by the person making the repairs
and can be purchased for $40,00 at the
Citys Engineering Dept. Monday through
Friday between the hours of 7:30 to 6:30
• and 12,30 to 1:30 p.m. If repairs are
started without a permit you will be Issued
pnotice to stop work and the cost of the
m—nat.!! be the original 640,00 as well as
penalty of three (3) times the permit cost.
If you do not have a current Right -of -Way
bond, you will need to get an application
form from the City Engineer's Office and
have It filled out by your Insurance com-
pany then returned to the City Engineer's
Office to be approved by the city Council
at their next regular meeting.

June 21. 2024 —Last day to turn in
Right -at -Way bond appilcation.
June 28, 2024 —Last day to obtan
perm/
uty 12, 2024 —Last day to com-
plete repairs.
If sidewalk repairs are not completed by
Pm deadline, the rep. will be made
throuh the City' Sidewalk Repair As-
sessment Program. A notice stating that
youproperty is in the assessment pro-
gram will be sent out and the sidewalk
panels will be remarked in green.
Upon project completion, the total cost for
repairs will be sent to the property owner
who will have 30-0ays to make payment to
the City. Any balance remaining after the
deadline on the invoice will be certified
and submitted to Black Hawk County to be
included as a special assessment on the
property taxes. The total cast shall Include.
but Is not limited to. engineering, Inspec-
t1onconstruction and administrative costs.
PUBLIC HEARING DATE
The Waterloo City Council w111 hold a
Public Hearing regarding the necessity
of sidewalk repairs at their regular council
meeting on Monday. May 6. 2024 at 5:30
p.m., In the Council Chambers in the Wa-
terloo City Hall.
At this hearing. property owners or any
other person may appear and speak either
for or against the need of the repairs. A
property owner will have waived all objec-
tions, ss they appear at the hearing, or
they have filed written objections with the
Waterloo Sidewalk Repair Notice - Page 1 of 2
Clerk by the time of the hearing.

Council of the City of Waterloo, Iowa If you
