HomeMy WebLinkAbout2010-882-9 /27/2010RESOLUTION NO. 2010-882 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WATERLOO, IOWA, APPROVING APPLICATION TO THE IOWA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION FOR SAFE ROUTES TO SCHOOL FUNDING AND DIRECTING EXECUTION OF SAID APPLICATION BY MAYOR. WHEREAS, pedestrian improvements around Highland Elementary School are recognized as an important need for the City and the preliminary findings from the Black Hawk County Metropolitan Area Bicycle and Pedestrian Safety Study have identified these improvements as a priority; and WHEREAS, the Iowa Department of Transportation provides Safe Routes to School funds on a competitive basis to projects that improve pedestrian and bicycle safety around elementary and middle schools; and WHEREAS, the City of Waterloo will be responsible for adequately maintaining the project for public use for at least the next ten years through standing ordinances regarding sidewalk maintenance. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WATERLOO, IOWA, that the City Council of Waterloo, Iowa authorizes the application to be submitted to the Iowa Department of Transportation for Safe Routes to School funding, in the amount of $165,795.00. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Iowa Northland Regional Council of Governments is hereby authorized to submit said application to the Iowa Department of Transportation on behalf of the City of Waterloo, Iowa.
