* Proposed changes/increases are influenced by several factors that include call volume trends, private
insurance maximum allowable fees and changes in Waterloo Fire Rescue operations.
1. Private insurance carriers have increased the maximum allowable fee they will pay for loaded
mileage.
2. Insurance carriers rarely cover treatment without transport. Therefore, it is necessary to charge
the patient after treating their condition and they refuse transport. We have not increased this
fee in over 10 years and current rate does not recover operating costs for this service.
3. Due to the sharp increase in WFR responding to assist calls that fall outside the intended scope
of operations it is necessary to impose fees associated with these services as a deterrent to
abusing our obligation to respond. These have been, and will continue to be, assessed by the
Medical Supervisor and Chief on a case -by -case basis. Often, this will result in connecting
individuals with resources intended to improve their situation prior to assessing this fee.
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 17th day of June 2024.
