RESOLUTION APPROVING SUBMISSION OF A SMART
GRANT APPLICATION IN THE AMOUNT OF $1,975,500.00,
FOR IMPROVING TRANSPORTATION SAFETY FOR ALL
ROADWAY USERS WITH A FOCUS ON VULNERABLE
ROAD USERS (VRUS) INCLUDING BICYCLISTS,
PEDESTRIANS, AND MOTORCYCLISTS BY CONDUCTING
A SYSTEMS' INTEGRATION DEMONSTRATION IN
DOWNTOWN WATERLOO.
WHEREAS, Mayor Quentin Hart has requested permission to submit a Strengthening
Mobility and Revolutionizing Transportation (SMART) Grant, in the amount of $1,975,500.00,
for improving transportation safety for all roadway users with a focus on Vulnerable Road Users
(VRUs) including bicyclists, pedestrians, and motorcyclists by conducting a systems' integration
demonstration in downtown Waterloo.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF WATERLOO, IOWA, that the submission of a Strengthening Mobility and Revolutionizing
Transportation (SMART) Grant, in the amount of $1,975,500.00, for improving transportation
safety for all roadway users with a focus on Vulnerable Road Users (VRUs) including bicyclists,
pedestrians, and motorcyclists by conducting a systems' integration demonstration in downtown
Waterloo, is hereby approved.
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 15th day of July 2024.
