Is your organization a(circle one): Nonprofit 501 (c)3 Organization -OR- Government Agency Requested Matching Grant Amount $5,000 Renovation/Project Description-Briefly describe the baseball/softball field renovation project(i.e., what is being upgraded-fences,dugouts,backstops,etc.). Will the MTCF grant be used for a specific purpose? The City of Waterloo's Leisure Services Department currently operates a 6-diamond youth baseball/softball complex(the Cedar River Youth Sports Complex). A large share of our programming for children 12 and under takes place at this location. Over the past five years we have seen a dramatic increase in our participation in youth baseball and softball, especially at the youngest age levels(t-ball). We have over 1,400 participants from pre-school through 8th grade. Of these, over 400 are playing in our tee-ball(pre K—K)or coach pitch leagues(15t grade). This increase has made it very difficult to arrange enough field time for games and practices for all age groups. We are also going to lose two ball diamonds located at a local elementary school due to the construction of a new school on the site. This will really amplify our need for more diamonds! Many times the youngest players are the children that end up sacrificing valuable field time. Our proposal is to build two new fields on top of an underutilized football/soccer field that would be designed specifically for our tee-ball and coach pitch age groups. We plan to have shallower outfield fences, shorter permanent bases and toddler sized player benches on these fields. This construction will solve two dilemmas. First, our youngest players can be moved off of the fields that are sized for our older players, thus freeing up valuable practice and game times. Second, our tee-ball and coach pitch participants will have diamonds that are built exclusively for them and to their appropriate dimensions. Funding from the Minnesota Twins Community Fund would be utilized to purchase quality playable infield surface, bases, and protective fence cap. What is the total cost of the renovation project? $60,000.00 Please include the attached line-item budget. Has the renovation begun? Yes No If so,what has been completed and when is the project scheduled to be complete? If not, when will it begin and when is the project scheduled to be complete? The renovation project has not yet begun. Competitive bids for the fencing portion of the project are due at the beginning of April. Upon review of the bids we will award the contract. Prior to the fencing being installed our Department's crews will grade the land for proper drainage and elevations. Once the dirt work is complete the fencing contractor will begin installing the fence. Once the fence work is complete we will bring in infield surface and level the playing field. From that point we will construct player and spectator areas. We plan to have the fields completed by Fall of 2008. How will/did you raise additional renovation funds? On the line-item budget section of this application, please list other sources of support that have been secured and requests for support that are currently pending or to be submitted. The City of Waterloo has committed$40,000 in cash to this project as well as$5,000 worth of in kind labor. We have a request for$10,000 to the Community Foundation of Northeast Iowa currently under consideration. How long has your organization been raising funds for this project? Approximately 6 months. When will all funds needed for the project be secured? June,2008. What will be the impact on the project if you do not receive a Twin Fields for Kids grant? We will not be able to complete the project until more funds are available. That likely would mean that the project would not be complete until after the 2009 season. If we need to wait that long we may very well have to turn some tee-ball and coach pitch children away from our program due to space limitations. Eligibility 1) Do you operate a Baseball Program?
