AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE CITY OF WATERLOO CODE OF
ORDINANCES BY REPEALING SECTION 5, FEES FOR CALLS FOR
SERVICE, OF CHAPTER 2, FIRE PREVENTION AND PROTECTION,
TITLE 9, BUILDING REGULATIONS, AND ENACTING IN LIEU
THEREOF A NEW SECTION 5, FEES FOR CALLS FOR SERVICE, OF
CHAPTER 2, FIRE PREVENTION AND PROTECTION, TITLE 9,
BUILDING REGULATIONS.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WATERLOO, IOWA
AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. That Section 5, Fees For Calls For Service, of Chapter 2, Fire Prevention and
Protection, Title 9, Building Regulations, is hereby repealed and a new Section 5, Fees For Calls
For Service, of Chapter 2, Fire Prevention and Protection, Title 9, Building Regulations, is enacted
in lieu thereof as follows:
9-2-5: FEES FOR CALLS FOR SERVICE
A. When the Fire Department is called to respond to an emergency at any business,
commercial, retail, non-profit, industrial, or other non-residential property, or an apartment
building consisting of four (4) or more units, fees shall be charged to the owner(s) at rates set in a
Fee Schedule adopted by City Council Resolution. The Fee Schedule shall contain a minimum
fee, as well as hourly rates for the various department apparatuses.
B. Motor Vehicle Fires: When the Fire department is called to respond to a motor vehicle fire,
a fee will be charged to the responsible party at rates set in a Fee Schedule adopted by City
Council Resolution. The Fee Schedule shall contain a minimum fee, as well as unit rates for fluid
leak absorbent.
C. The Fire Chief may waive or negotiate a more appropriate service fee based on hardship,
established self-insurance plans and larger deductibles. The Fire Chief shall conduct periodic
reviews of the rates.
D. Title 1, Chapter 3, Section 3 of the Waterloo City Code shall govern all unpaid fees charged
in this section.
Section 2. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage and
publication as provided by law.
