RESOLUTION ENDORSING THE USE OF METROPOLITAN
ENHANCEMENT FUNDS FOR DEVELOPMENT OF THE LOU
HENRY HOOVER MEMORIAL GARDEN ADJACENT TO U.S.
HIGHWAY 218 IN WATERLOO.
WHEREAS, the Black Hawk Metropolitan Area has been developing
a network of connected recreational and cultural venues; and
WHEREAS, development of the Lou Henry Hoover Memorial Garden
adjacent to U.S. Highway 218 between W. 4th Street and Park Avenue
is an important component of this plan; and
WHEREAS, funding assistance is available through the Black
Hawk Metropolitan Area Transportation Policy Board's Metropolitan
Enhancement Program and the City of Waterloo is in need of such
assistance in order to fully develop this project; and
WHEREAS, the City of Waterloo certifies that the Lou Henry
Hoover Memorial Garden is within its jurisdiction and will remain
dedicated to public use and further that the City of Waterloo will
have jurisdictional responsibility and will adequately maintain
the Lou Henry Hoover Memorial Garden for a minimum of 20 years.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
WATERLOO, IOWA, that the city endorses said project, and that with
the assistance of Metropolitan Enhancement funds, the development
of the Lou Henry Hoover Memorial Garden will be completed,
dedicated to public use and adequately maintained.
