Date: June 13, 2007 RE: Existing sidewalks and/or recreational trails within scope of project for surface repair agreements Greg Bastian Jeff Bales Chicago Central &Pacific Railroad City of Waterloo 1006 East 4th Street 715 Mulberry Waterloo, IA 50703 Waterloo, IA 50703 Gentlemen: The purpose of this addendum is to require compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and the enclosed Iowa Department of Transportation Standard Road Plan RB-6. Both these requirements must be met when a grade crossing surface repair project includes an existing pedestrian sidewalk and/or recreational trail. To be in accordance with existing ADA requirements, a detectable warning must be installed in the sidewalk and/or recreational trail. The cost of the sidewalk and/or recreational trail to accommodate the detectable warning will be included in the project. As per Standard Road Plan RB-6,the detectable warning is to be installed 10' from the edge of the nearest rail. The project will also include the cost of an additional two feet of sidewalk or to the nearest sidewalk joint beyond the detectable warning and/or an additional two feet of the recreational trail. Existing asphalt sidewalk approach will be removed and replaced with concrete. Any additional new sidewalk and/or trail beyond that point will be paid by the highway authority. The railroad will be responsible to have the sidewalk and/or recreational trail built, and assure it is built in accordance with Standard Road Plan RB-6 and ADA requirements. The itemized billing for the sidewalk and/or recreational trail replacement and detectable warning will be included with their billing to the Iowa Department of Transportation. The railroad will confer with the highway jurisdiction to make sure their ADA standards are being met. This addendum includes the following grade crossing agreements and any other surface agreements for projects that have existing sidewalks and/or recreational trails executed by the Iowa Department of Transportation not completed as of this date.
