Reason for Change Order:
Revisions to Subdrain - Plan sheets 28 and 29 of the bid documents called for replacing the existing 8" storm sewer
with 6" subdrain between manholes 55 and 58 on the west side of the runway and between manholes 59 and 62 on the
east side of the runway. The new 6" subdiain was designed to provide an outlet for the existing 8" storm sewer pipe
that extends north on both sides of the runway and across Taxiway `B' but stops short of Runway 12-30. This design
required the new subdrain to be installed at a depth of greater than six foot in depth. The typical detail for subdrain
installation calls for a trench width of 12". In order to achieve subdrainage and provide a trench width that conformed
to the details on the plans, the subdrain system south of Runway 12-30 was reviewed and redesigned.
The subdiain flowline was raised and the 8" storm was filled with flowable mortar and abandoned in place.
Additional subdrain was installed between Manhole No. 55 on the west side of the runway and Manhole No. 59 on the
east side of the runway to provide subdraining to Taxiway'B'. The existing subdrain system between Taxiway B and
Runway 12-30 was connected to an existing manhole on the west side of the runway and to a new manhole was
installed on the east side of the runway.
Runway 18-36 Rehabilitation
CO-1 Project No — 113168 & 113243
1
This plan change results in an increase of approximately 770 feet of subdrain, five subdrain cleanouts, one new
manhole, and a approximately 40 cubic yards of flowable mortar required to fill the existing 8" pipe. In addition, the
change in subdrain depth and subsequent abandonment of the 8" storm sewer resulted in one previously purchased
manhole being to be sent back to the manufacturer. A mates ial reimbursement was i equired by the contractor for this
manhole since it could not be reused. A price adjustment was also made for the subdrain pipe installation depth
between Manhole No. 55 and No. 58 as well as Manhole No. 59 and No. 62.
Storm Sewer Manhole Revisions — The existing reinforced concrete storm sewer pipes cross the runway and enter and
exit the intakes at an acute angle. This creates a situation where the proposed rectangular manhole sizes must be
increased to allow unimpeded storm water flow. In lieu of widening the proposed structures, round manholes were
chosen to be utilized. These iound manholes allow pipes to enter and exit from any angle without interrupting flow
through the structure and will be more easily maintained with the acute pipe angles.
Repair Storm Sewer Manhole No. 42 — During construction storm sewer manhole No. 42 shown on Sheet 12 of the
plans was found to have pipe connection and settlement issues. As a result, the airport can not maintain the area
immediately around this structure. In order to fix this issue, the contractor will excavate around the structure, properly
collar the storm sewer pipes to the manhole walls, clean out the silt that has collected within the structure and pipes,
and install a fillet in the bottom of the manhole.
Runway Hold Position Markings on Taxiways — These runway hold position markings on taxiways are provided in
accordance with the latest guidance for enhanced taxiway marking as provided by FAA AC 150/5340-1 J including
Change 2. This additional marking will provide the painted runway hold markings at each of the hold positions on the
airfield. There are 17 locations on the airfield as noted on the attached drawing that are included in this item. The
estimated quantity for each painted hold mark is approximately 375 square feet of paint. The individual amount of red
paint and white paint varies depending on the legend of the hold mark The black outline is constant for each painted
hold maik. The quantity will be measured and paid for by each painted hold mark installed as follows:
Attached and made a part of the Change Order are revised Plan Sheet No. 28, revised Plan Sheet No. 29 and new Plan
Sheet 51A.
