Mayor John R. Rooff in the Chair. Roll call: Jordan, Krizek, Murphy, Gronen, Getty, Berry. Absent: Anders. Invocation by: Father Jerry Kopacek, St. Edwards Catholic Church. Councilperson Krizek thanked all the Department Heads and people who work for the City of Waterloo for their valuable service, and she hopes they will continue to offer the same service to the new council members. Councilperson Krizek thanked all her fellow council members. Councilperson Jordan thanked all the outgoing council members. Coil administered the Oath of Office to Mayor -elect John R. Rooff. Mayor Rooff performed swearing-in of Firefighters Todd Petersen, Neal Caughron and Ron Hoskins. 116284 - Hurley/Jordan that the Oaths of Office of the Mayor and City Council Members be received and placed on file. Ayes: Seven. Motion carried. 116285 - Jordan/Berry that communication from Mayor Rooff transmitting recommendation of appointment of Harold Getty as Mayor Pro Tem be received, placed on file and approved. Ayes: Seven. Motion carried. 116286 - Clark/Hurley that communication from Mayor Rooff transmitting recommendation of reappointment of Tom Jennings as Chief of Waterloo Police Department be received, placed on file and approved. Ayes: Seven. Motion carried. 116287 - Berry/Jordan that communication from Mayor Rooff transmitting recommendation of reappointment of Ned DeBerg as Chief of Waterloo Fire Rescue be received, placed on file and approved. Motion carried. 116293 - Getty/Jordan that "Resolution naming Firstar Bank N.A., Iowa Public Agency Investment Trust, Union Planters Bank, Wells Fargo Bank N.A., Bank Iowa, Community National Bank, Citizens Bank & Trust, John Deere Community Credit Union and Public Employees Credit Union as depositories for the City of Waterloo", be adopted. Ayes: Seven. Resolution adopted and upon approval by Mayor assigned No. 2002-1. Councilperson Hurley stated that on behalf of the new council members he would like to offer congratulations, gratitude and thanks to the original council members. Councilperson Hurley stated he thinks citizens need to know what a great transition this has been for the new council members, and that everyone has been very open and encouraging during this transition. Councilperson Hurley stated if the new council members get off to a smooth, positive start, its due in no small part to these individuals. Councilperson Hurley thanked Mayor Rooff for serving and his offers of help and encouragement. Councilperson Hurley thanked staff, city department heads, City Clerk Nancy Eckert and all the organizations up and down Main Street Waterloo for including the new council member and helping to bring them up to speed. Mayor Rooff welcomed the new council members. Mayor Rooff bid farewell and best wishes to the outgoing council members and thanked them for their work and dedication to our city. Mayor Rooff thanked department heads, the Chiefs, City Clerk Nancy Eckert and his secretary Donna Cutler. Mayor Rooff addressed the areas of budgeting, public safety, streets and sanitation, leadership and pride in our city.
