VALUATION IN THE AMOUNT OF $9 . 37 PER $1 , 000 OF TAXABLE

WHEREAS, the City of Waterloo has prepared an operating
budget for FY1989 to fund those activities of the City, and
WHEREAS, the State of Iowa mandates that a municipality may
not exceed a general fund tax levy of $8 . 10 per $1 , 000 of taxable
valuation, and
WHEREAS, the proposed FY1989 budget exceeds the General Fund
Levy Limit by approximately $1 , 500 , 000 , and
WHEREAS, Chapter 24 . 48 , 1987 Iowa Code allows municipalities
to suspend the statutory property tax levy limitation, and
WHEREAS, the City Council passed Resolution No, 1988-17 on
January 19 ,. 1988 authorizing an appeal of $8 , 75 based on estimated
taxable values,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF WATERLOO, IOWA, that an appeal be made to the Iowa
Department of Management to exceed the General Fund Tax Levy
limit of $8 . 10 per $1 , 000 of taxable valuation,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that an appeal of $9 . 37 per $1 , 000 of
taxable valuation as certified by the Black Hawk County Auditor be
hereby requested.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk/Auditor be and the same
hereby instructed to prepare said appeal and deliver to the Iowa
Department of Management for consideration and review.
