co 6Falls Avenue only on exclusive (protected) left turn green phase;

WHEREAS, the left turn pocket does not have the storage
ccapacity to store all vehicles on red when demand is high; and

r:• WHEREAS, as a result, vehicles spill onto the through lane
and due to the existing profile and speed conditions, rear-end
-collisions happen frequently at said intersection; and
WHEREAS, increasing the length of the left turn storage area
will correct problems causing rear-end collisions due to the above
mentioned conditions.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF WATERLOO, IOWA, that the Mayor be authorized to submit an
application for Federal Safety Funds in the amount of $30 ,000 for
hintersection improvements on U.S. Highway 218 (University Avenue)
( and Falls Avenue.
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 24th day of October, 1988.
