RESOLUTION NO. 2024-643
A RESOLUTION APPROVING THE SUBMISSION OF A
HIGHWAY SAFETY IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM (HSIP)
GRANT APPLICATION IN THE AMOUNT OF $640,000.00
FOR SYSTEMIC SNOW PROTECTION OF RED SIGNALS,
AND AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR AND CITY CLERK TO
EXECUTE THE DOCUMENTS.
WHEREAS, the City of Waterloo is committed to improving transportation safety and
efficiency; and
WHEREAS, the systemic snow protection of red signals is an identified need to enhance
road safety during adverse weather conditions; and
WHERESS, the Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) provides funding to
projects that aim to reduce traffic fatalities and serious injuries on public roads; and
WHEREAS, the City staff has prepared a grant application for HSIP funding in the
amount of $640,000.00 to support systemic snow protection improvements for red signals; and
WHEREAS, the submission of this grant application requires authorization from the City
Council for official submission.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Waterloo as
follows:
1. The submission of the Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) grant application
in the amount of $640,000.00 for the systemic protection of red signals against snow is hereby
approved.
2. The Mayor and City Clerk are authorized and directed to execute all documents
necessary to submit the grant application and fulfill the conditions of the HSIP grant
requirements.
3. This resolution shall take effect upon its passage and approval.
