Getty Council Chambers Members present: Jones, Jacobs, Amos Moved by Amos, seconded by Jacobs that the Agenda, as amended, be approved. Ayes: Three. Motion carried. Moved by Amos, seconded by Jacobs thatMayor Hart's recommendation of the following appointments, be approved: Appointee Board/Commission Expiration Date New or Re - Appointment Carrie Diesburg Human Rights 04/04/2019 New Mr. Amos explained that the Human Rights Commission did not have to be a resident as long as they are a member of the community per the City Attorney. Abraham Funchess, Human Rights Director, explained that the ordinance is vague and the applicant commutes to Waterloo and is an expert in domestic violence. He explained the makeup of the commission. Mr. Lind asked for a written legal opinion. Mr. Funchess reiterated the qualifications and skills that Ms. Diesburg will bring to the board; he stressed the importance and the value of this appointment. Mr. Jacobs stated that he believes members should be citizens of Waterloo and this appointment would set a wrong precedent. Mr. Jones stated that a better definition of the term "member of the community" would be beneficial. Mr. Amos stated that council has obtained the opinion of the City Attorney and should move forward with this appointment. Ayes: Two. Nays: One (Jacobs). Motion carried. With no further business before the Council, it was moved by Amos, seconded by Jacobs that the meeting be adjourned at 5:14 p.m. Ayes: Three. Motion carried.
