Committee Reports
Building, Grounds & Operations—Chairperson Mel Wittwer
Mel Wittwer provided the following update.
• Seven new brick orders that will be filled before May.
• The alarm was set of about ten days ago, for the second time this year. When he arrived,
the police were already here, and the doors were ajar. He said it is possible that someone
pulled heavily enough on the door to pop it out of the dog down below. The last time this
happened the city sent out a door maintenance person and worked on it. It might end up
that we need to consider new doors.
• The plan for the restoration of the kitchen is to break it into phases.
November 20, 2024 Page 2
o Phase I—Painting and plaster repair (Greg Ahlhelm said he would look at getting
quotes for the painting).
o Phase II—Restoration of cabinets.
o Phase III—New countertops.
o Final Phase—Flooring.
A discussion followed on various considerations including funding of the restoration project.
Mel presented the following requests for payment.
• Reimbursement to David Grimm for a flag purchase in the amount of$119.98.
• Reimbursement to David Grimm for the purchase of cookies and coffee offered at the
Brousseau Brothers event in the amount of$31.95.
• Payment to Black Hawk Memorial for the engraving of one brick in the amount of
$35.00.
Moved by Wittwer, seconded by S. Grimm to approve the above reimbursements. Ayes: Five.

Operations—Chairperson David Grimm
David Grimm commented that he has received good feedback on the Veterans Day program. We
talked about our long-range plan, and they liked the idea. He was approached after the event by
someone from the Grout Museum who asked to meet to discuss working together in the future.
This next year is the 75th anniversary of VJ-Day and questioned if we would like to hold
something here. Craig White agreed that would be good. Jim Lentfer shared that during the
Operations Committee meeting he suggested teaming up other organizations such as the Grout or
the Library on some of their events and offer tours of our building in conjunction with those
events.
David stated that they talked about the Statue of Liberty done by the Boy Scouts that is fifty
years old this year. He'd like to talk with them to see if they might consider refurbishing it.
Craig White agreed with approaching the Boy Scouts on the issue.
Educational/HistoricaUArtifacts Preservation—Chairperson Frank McCaw
No Report—Frank McCaw was absent.
Finance/Fundraising—James Lentfer
Jim Lentfer passed around the quarterly report from the Waterloo Community Foundation that
showed our donated funds are increasing. Jim shared the 2026 Budget and asked that if there are
any suggested changes or additions,to please contact him. He will be turning the Budget into
Bridgett Wood on Monday,November 25, 2024.
Unfinished Business
None.

New Business
Jim Lentfer commented that Rolling Thunder was no longer an organization in Iowa. He
suggested that the board begin to consider ways to recruit new members and that bringing in
younger members will be important.
David Grimm shared that he has already been approached by Heidi Warrington who is a member
of the Daughters of the American Revolution. They used to be a member years ago. He would
like to extend an invitation to rejoin. If they agree, we will need to amend our Constitution and
By-Laws to include their organization.
With no further business before the commission, it was moved by Lentfer, seconded by Day,that
the meeting be adjourned at 5:22 p.m. Ayes: Five. Motion carried.
