RESOLUTION NO. 2026-158
RESOLUTION RETURNING TRAFFIC SAFETY
IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM GRANT, IN THE AMOUNT OF
$500,000.00, FOR HAMMOND AVENUE AND SHAULIS
ROAD ROUNDABOUT.
WHEREAS, the City of Waterloo, Iowa, was awarded a Traffic Safety Improvement
Program (TSIP) grant in the amount of $500,000.00 for the Hammond Avenue and Shaulis Road
roundabout project; and
WHEREAS, the City has held said grant for three years, including a one-year extension,
and the project must be let before the end of Fiscal Year 2026 in order to meet the grant
deadline; and
WHEREAS, approximately $120,000.00 has already been expended for design of the
project; and
WHEREAS, the project requires approximately $800,000.00 in City funding, which was
not included in the Fiscal Year 2027 budget; and
WHEREAS, the City Council has determined that it is in the best interest of the City to
return said grant.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Waterloo,
Iowa, that:
1. The Traffic Safety Improvement Program grant, in the amount of $500,000.00, for the
Hammond Avenue and Shaulis Road roundabout project, is hereby returned.
2. City staff are hereby authorized and directed to take such actions as may be necessary
to effectuate the return of said grant and to provide any required notice or documentation to the
appropriate agency.
