This year's inspected area Is Zone 52 and Is bounded by E. Ridgeway Avenue — East City Limit line - South City Limit LLne - Kimball Avenue The sidewalk panels that need repair have been marked with one o1 the CI - towing symbols: • White paint circle — single sidewalk pane replacement • White "x' — a obeisant panel that may need to be replaced because of possible tree mats, • White "P' — a sidewalk panel that can be repaired by patching. The required sidewalk repairs are also shown on the enclosed Side- walk Inspection Report with the type f defect(s) explained on the back of that reporl and a sidewalk repair cost estimate prepared by the Engineer, Vng Department. This 1s an estimate of repair cost and not a proposed assessment. Y ou may use this esti- mate to compare with quotes you may receive from pnvate contractors. It has been the City's experience that the re. pair cost may be less if the property owner contracts the repairs Instead of having them done through the Side- walk Repair Assessment Program. Property owners can voluntarily make the repairs to their sidewalks that must meet current city sidewalk specifica- tions or hire a contractor to make the repairs. A current Right -of -Way bond Is needed to get a permit. You can oontact the Waterloo City Engineers ffice to determine If a contractor has a current Right-of-way band. A permit isrequired before any repairs $4made and can be purchased tor 000 at the Ciys Engineering Dept Monday through Friday between the hours of 7:30 to 5:90 a,m, and 12:30 to 1:30 p.m- Sidewalk permits are also available online. Visit the City of Wa- oo website at cltyotwaterlooiowa. and navigate to Departments, cornand by Engineering. and select City Sidewalk Permit, This will direct you to the Clty's online permitting por- tal First-time users will need to com- plete registration. If repairs r a started without a permit you will beissued a notice to stop work anthe cost of the permit will be the original $40.00 as well as a penally of di ice (3) times the permit cost. If aydo not have a current Right-ol- Way bond, you will need to get an ap- plication farm from the city Engineers Office and have It filled out by your in- surance parry then returned to the City Engineer's Office to be approved by the city council at their next regu- rarmeeang. A notice stating that your property is in the assessment program will be sent out and the sidewalk panels will be remarked in green. Upon project completion, the total cost for repairs will be sent to the property owner who will have 30 days to make payment to the City. Any balance remaining on the Invoice after the deadline will be certified and submitted to Black Hawk County to be included as a special assessment on the property taxes. Th e total cost shall Include, but Is not Ilmtted to, engineering, inspec- tion, construction and administrative costs. PUBLIC HEARING DATE The Waterloo City Council wil hold a Public Hearing regarding the necessity of sidewalk repairs at their regular counc}I meeting on Monday, May id. 2026 at 5:30 p.m., in the Council Chambers in the Wa- terloo City Hall. At this hearing, property owners or any other person may ap pear and speak either for or against the need of the repairs. A property owner will have waived all obJec- tons, unless they appear at the hearing, or they have tiled written objections with the Clerk by the time of the hearing.
