1 2015 IFC General Requirements Section 315 General Storage
315.3.1 Ceiling clearance. Storage shall be maintained 2 feet or
more below the ceiling in nonsprinklered areas of buildings or not
less than 18 inches below sprinkler head deflectors in sprinklered
areas of buildings.
*Housekeeping rooms,offices and laundry room were all found to
have storage up to or within 2 feet of the ceiling.

Equipment,Wiring and Hazards
605.3 Working space and clearance.A working space of not less
than 30 inches in width,36 inches in depth and 78 inches in height
shall be provided in front of electrical service equipment.Where
the electrical service equipment is wider than 30 inches,the
working space shall be not less than the width of the equipment.
Storage of materials shall not be located within the designated
working space.

605.5 Extension cords. Extension cords and flexible cords shall not
be a substitute for permanent wiring. Extension cords and flexible
cords shall not be affixed to structures,extended through walls,
ceilings or floors,or under doors or floor coverings, nor shall such
cords be subject to environmental damage or physical impact.
Extension cords shall be used only with portable appliances.
*An extension cord was found to be plugged into a refrigerator in
an occupant room, room 111
*Corrective action, remove all extension cords being used as
permanent wiring in building. Stationary appliances such as
refrigerators are to be plugged directly into an outlet.

605.6 Unapproved conditions.Open junction boxes and open-
wiring splices shall be prohibited.Approved covers shall be
provided for all switch and electrical outlet boxes.
*Exit light in the pool room, by the door leading outside,had a
cover plate missing on it.
*Corrective action, Repair the exit light/replace the cover or
replace the exit light
6 2015 IFC Fire and Smoke Protection Features Section 703 Fire-
Resistance-Rated Construction
703.2.3 Door operation. Swinging fire doors shall close from the
full-open position and latch automatically.The door closer shall
exert enough force to close and latch the door from any partially
open position.
*Multiple doors to occupant rooms were found to not close and
latch properly. Rooms 229,222,211,203, 111, 109
*Corrective action,ensure that all fire-rated doors and doors to
occupant rooms operate properly.

7 2015 IFC Fire Protection Systems Section 901 General
901.6 Inspection,testing and maintenance. Fire detection,alarm,
and extinguishing systems,mechanical smoke exhaust systems,
and smoke and heat vents shall be maintained in an operative
condition at all times,and shall be replaced or repaired where
defective. Nonrequired fire protection systems and equipment shall
be inspected,tested and maintained or removed.
*Multiple single station smoke detectors in occupant rooms were
found to have a weak signaling alarm. Rooms 211,209,208,206,
203,201, 111, 102
*Corrective action,ensure that all smoke detectors in all occupant
rooms are in good working condition at all times and have strong
signal/alarm
8 2015 IFC Means of Egress Section 1008 Means of Egress
Illumination
1008.2 Illumination required.The means of egress serving a room
or space shall be illuminated at all times that the room or space is
occupied.
