1 2015 IFC Fire Service Features Section 509 Fire Protection and
Utility Equipment Identification and Access
509.1 Identification. Fire protection equipment shall be identified in
an approved manner. Rooms containing controls for air-
conditioning systems, sprinkler risers and valves, or other fire
detection, suppression or control elements shall be identified for
the use of the fire department.Approved signs required to identify
fire protection equipment and equipment location shall be
constructed of durable materials, permanently installed and readily
visible.

605.3.1 Labeling. Doors into electrical control panel rooms shall be
marked with a plainly visible and legible sign stating ELECTRICAL
ROOM or similar approved wording.The disconnecting means for
each service,feeder or branch circuit originating on a switchboard
or panelboard shall be legibly and durably marked to indicate its
purpose unless such purpose is clearly evident.
*Mark doors to rooms with Electric Panels

605.4 Multiplug adapters. Multiplug adapters, such as cube
adapters, unfused plug strips or any other device not complying
with NFPA 70 shall be prohibited.
*Multiple multi plug adapters were found on the 3rd floor space in
the Carney Alexander Marold &Co Suite

605.4.2 Power supply. Relocatable power taps shall be directly
connected to a permanently installed receptacle.
*Daisy chained power taps were found, one on the 2nd floor above
the Set

605.5 Extension cords. Extension cords and flexible cords shall not
be a substitute for permanent wiring. Extension cords and flexible
cords shall not be affixed to structures, extended through walls,
ceilings or floors, or under doors or floor coverings, nor shall such
cords be subject to environmental damage or physical impact.
Extension cords shall be used only with portable appliances.
*Extension cords were being used for permanent wiring in a few
places, on Set for the moveable Set Desks, in the basement and
on 3rd floor in the tenant suite.
*The City Electrical Inspector advised that SO power cords would
be an acceptable alternative to extension cords

605.6 Unapproved conditions. Open junction boxes and open-
wiring splices shall be prohibited.Approved covers shall be
provided for all switch and electrical outlet boxes.
*Multiple open junction boxes were found, most in the basement,
one on 3rd floor electrical room junction box k/o, lights were
hanging by wires in the basement,4th floor breaker panel missing
covers on panel.

605.7 Appliances. Electrical appliances and fixtures shall be tested
and listed in published reports of inspected electrical equipment by
an approved agency and installed and maintained in accordance
with all instructions included as part of such listing.
*3rd floor tenant space, larger electrical appliances, refrigerator
and microwave,were plugged into a power tap

901.4 Installation. Fire protection systems shall be maintained in
accordance with the original installation standards for that system.
Required systems shall be extended, altered or augmented as
necessary to maintain and continue protection where the building is
altered, remodeled or added to.Alterations to fire protection
systems shall be done in accordance with applicable standards.
*All existing Fire Protection Systems need to be maintained,
including the areas in the basement and 4th floor

901.4.5 Appearance of equipment.Any device that has the
physical appearance of life safety or fire protection equipment but
does not perform that life safety or fire protection function shall be
prohibited.
*Old Fire Alarm Panel in the basement was abandoned, contact
Fire Alarm contractor about the removal of the panel

901.6 Inspection,testing and maintenance. Fire detection, alarm,
and extinguishing systems, mechanical smoke exhaust systems,
and smoke and heat vents shall be maintained in an operative
condition at all times, and shall be replaced or repaired where
defective. Nonrequired fire protection systems and equipment shall
be inspected,tested and maintained or removed.
*Missing ceiling tiles on 3rd floor need to be replaced.All required
and existing Fire Protection Systems on 4th floor will need to be
maintained
11 2015 IFC Means of Egress Section 1008 Means of Egress
Illumination
1008.2 Illumination required.The means of egress serving a room
or space shall be illuminated at all times that the room or space is
occupied.
*Egress lights were found to be out when tested on 3rd and 4th
floors
12 2015 IFC Means of Egress Section 1013 Exit Signs
1013.6.3 Power source. Exit signs shall be illuminated at all times.
To ensure continued illumination for a duration of not less than 90
minutes in case of primary power loss,the sign illumination means
shall be connected to an emergency power system provided from
storage batteries, unit equipment or an on-site generator.The
installation of the emergency power system shall be in accordance
with Section 604.1
*Exit lights were found to be out when tested on 3rd and 4th floors
