1 2015 IFC General Requirements Section 315 General Storage
315.3.1 Ceiling clearance. Storage shall be maintained 2 feet or
more below the ceiling in nonsprinkiered areas of buildings or not
less than 18 inches below sprinkler head deflectors in sprinklered
areas of buildings.
*Multiple areas of the building had storage in violation of the
clearances above.

the clearances described above.

2 2015 IFC Building Services and Systems Section 605 Electrical
Equipment,Wiring and Hazards
605.5 Extension cords. Extension cords and flexible cords shall not
be a substitute for permanent wiring. Extension cords and flexible
cords shall not be affixed to structures, extended through walls,
ceilings or floors, or under doors or floor coverings, nor shall such
cords be subject to environmental damage or physical impact.
Extension cords shall be used only with portable appliances.
*An extension cord was found in the Youth Center Area that was
extended up through the ceiling and came back out of the ceiling
and connected to Christmas lights around a pole.

5 2015 IFC Fire and Smoke Protection Features Section 703 Fire-
Resistance-Rated Construction
703.2.2 Hold-open devices and closers. Hold-open devices and
automatic door closers,where provided, shall be maintained.
During the period that such device is out of service for repairs,the
door it operates shall remain in the closed position.
*Multiple doors in the building had kick-stand type hold open
devices on them or foot wedge type hold open devices. Contact
you Fire Alarm contractor to install magnetic/electronic hold open
devices if you would like to keep doors opened. Many of these
doors are fire-rated doors and need to be closed in the event of a
fire. This helps compartmentalize and stops the spread of smoke
and flame throughout the building.
6 2015 IFC Means of Egress Section 1008 Means of Egress
Illumination
1008.2 Illumination required.The means of egress serving a room
or space shall be illuminated at all times that the room or space is
occupied.
2015 IFC Means of Egress Section 1013 Exit Signs
1013.6.3 Power source. Exit signs shall be illuminated at all times.
To ensure continued illumination for a duration of not less than 90
minutes in case of primary power loss,the sign illumination means
shall be connected to an emergency power system provided from
storage batteries, unit equipment or an on-site generator. The
installation of the emergency power system shall be in accordance
with Section 604.

7 2015 IFC Means of Egress Section 1010 Doors, Gates and
Turnstiles
1010.1.9 Door operations. Except as specifically permitted by this
section, egress doors shall be readily openable from the egress
side without the use of a key or special knowledge or effort.
*Door in the hallway leading from the main entrance back to the
youth center had a keyed lock above the panic hardware for the
door.
*Corrective action, remove keyed lock from the door.
8 2015 IFC Fire Protection Systems Section 901 General
901.4 Installation. Fire protection systems shall be maintained in
accordance with the original installation standards for that system.
Required systems shall be extended, altered or augmented as
necessary to maintain and continue protection where the building is
altered, remodeled or added to.Alterations to fire protection
systems shall be done in accordance with applicable standards.

Comments: Have the Waterloo Building Department review any work and permits for the work
that was performed in the Martin Bros. Building/garage bay area. There is a
mezzanine in this area that is potentially obstructing exit/egress doors.
