Inspection of the building to also be conducted by the City of Waterloo's Building department for structural condition. Recommendations or referrals to licensed professionals in the State of Iowa may be made to remedy the condition of the building including egress concerns for employees, stability of the building including the roof,walls and mezzanines.Any identified deficiencies to be corrected to the satisfaction of the Building Official and Building Inspector. 2 . 1104 General of Egress for Existing Buildings: Means of egress in existing buildings shall comply with the minimum egress requirements where specified in Table 1103.1 as further enumerated in Sections 1104.2 through 1104.25,and the building code that applied at the time of construction. Egress paths, corridors,travel distance, emergency egress and exit lighting shall be reviewed by the City of Waterloo Building Department and corrections completed to meet code requirements as determined by the Building Department. 3 315.3 Storage in buildings: Storage of materials in building shall be orderly and stacks shall be stable. Storage of combustible materials shall be separated from heaters or heating devices by distance or shielding so that ignition cannot occur.Additionally, storage shall be maintained 2'or more below the ceiling in non-sprinkler protected areas of buildings. Storage areas and practices within the warehouse will require a review to ensure that the above listed conditions are met. 4 High Piled 3201 Combustible Storage: Facilities with areas of storage heights 12'and above will require a permit and review for high piled combustible storage.Additional requirements for this storage application may apply. Reduce all storage to a maximum of 12'above finished floor. 5 315.3.2 Combustible materials shall not be stored in exits Remove all storage in and around the warehouse exit with the alcove built around it. Maintain a minimum of 36"clear path at all times. 6 605.4 Multi-plug adapters: Multi-plug adapters, such as cube adapters, unfused plug strips or any other device not complying with NFPA 70 shall be prohibited. Locations not in compliance include: A. Multi plug adapter located near desk in office area. B. Refrigerator and microwave in office area to plug directly into permanent wall outlet. Portable power taps prohibited for this use. Ref# CODE Violation &Location Corrected 7 605.4.2 Power supply: Relocatable power taps shall be directly connected to a permanently installed receptacle. Remove daisy chained power taps in sorting area. 8 605.6 Un-approved conditions: Open junction boxes and open-wiring splices shall be prohibited. Approved covers shall be provided for all switch and electrical outlet boxes. Locations not in compliance include: A. Exit light from warehouse to outside B. Exit light to sorting area has exposed wiring. C. Junction box/light fixture under Christmas decorations D. Open junction box by lamp storage. 9 605.5 Extension cords: Extension cords and flexible cords shall not be a substitute for permanent wiring. Extension cords and flexible cords shall not be affixed to structures, extended through walls, ceilings or floors, or under doors or floor coverings, nor shall such cords be subject to environmental damage or physical impact. Extension cords shall be used only with portable appliances. Locations not in compliance include: A. On bench in sorting B. By bailer C. Receiving D. Extension cords from warehouse to sorting through the wall. E. Extension cords to scales 10 . 5704.3.4.4 Liquids for maintenance and operation of equipment: Quantities of flammable and combustible liquids in excess of 10 gallons used for maintenance purposes and the operation of equipment shall be stored in liquid storage cabinets. Quantities not exceeding 10 gallons are allowed to be stored outside of a cabinet when in approved containers. Reduce storage of gas to below 10 gallons or purchase a listed flammable liquids storage cabinet with self-closing doors. 11 605.1 Abatement of electrical hazards: Identified electrical hazards shall be abated. Identified hazardous electrical conditions in permanent wiring shall be brought to the attention of the responsible code official. Electrical wiring, devices, appliances and other equipment that is modified or damaged and constitutes an electrical shock or fire hazard shall not be used. Remove all hazardous wiring through-out building including exposed wiring and to the satisfaction of the City of Waterloo Electrical Inspector. Electrical work is required to be completed by a licensed electrical contractor with permits and inspections. Comments: RE:Storage Facility Initial Fire Inspection A complaint inspection was conducted at 522 Bratnober, Waterloo, Iowa on 9/25/18.The inspection was conducted under the 2015 IFC as a Group S-1 Occupancy.The building does not contain a fire sprinkler or fire alarm system. Fire extinguishers were last serviced by Proshield on 6/18.
