1 2015 IFC Building Services and Systems Section 605 Electrical
Equipment,Wiring and Hazards
605.1 Abatement of electrical hazards. Identified electrical hazards
shall be abated. Identified hazardous electrical conditions in
permanent wiring shall be brought to the attention of the
responsible code official. Electrical wiring,devices, appliances and
other equipment that is modified or damaged and constitutes an
electrical shock or fire hazard shall not be used.
2015 IFC Building Services and Systems Section 605 Electrical
Equipment, Wiring and Hazards
605.6 Unapproved conditions. Open junction boxes and open-
wiring splices shall be prohibited.Approved covers shall be
provided for all switch and electrical outlet boxes.
*Light ballast was found with exposed wiring in the basement
Resource Room Closet.
*Corrective action, have the cover installed over the wires or install
a new light fixture.

605.7 Appliances. Electrical appliances and fixtures shall be tested
and listed in published reports of inspected electrical equipment by
an approved agency and installed and maintained in accordance
with all instructions included as part of such listing.
*Refrigerator was found to be plugged into a power tap in the
office area of the basement.
*Corrective action, plug larger appliances like refrigerators and
microwaves into dedicated wall outlets.
3 2015 IFC Means of Egress Section 1031 Maintenance of the
Means of Egress
1031.2 Reliability. Required exit accesses, exits and exit discharges
shall be continuously maintained free from obstructions or
impediments to full instant use in the case of fire or other
emergency where the building area served by the means of egress
is occupied.An exit or exit passageway shall not be used for any
purpose that interferes with a means of egress.
2015 IFC Means of Egress Section 1031 Maintenance of the
Means of Egress
1031.3 Obstructions.A means of egress shall be free from
obstructions that would prevent its use, including the accumulation
of snow and ice.
*Storm water tile from the gutters/downspouts was found to be
blocking the north Exit doors to the courtyard area of the
classrooms on the southern side of the building.
*Corrective action, Maintain clearances in exit accesses,exits and
exit discharges at all times.
