Table of Contents Section 00 01 11 - Page 2 Project No. 19WATWATER002B 8/9/2019 NOTICE TO BIDDERS For the Taking of Construction Bids for the FY2019 YOUNG ARENA ROOF REPLACEMENT PROJECT, CONTRACT NO. 998 PRE-BID MEETING A pre-bid meeting will be held on August 21 , 2019 at 10:00 AM at Young Arena, 125 Commercial Street, Waterloo, Iowa. Attendance is recommended but is not mandatory. RECEIVING OF BIDS Sealed proposals will be received by the City Clerk of the City of Waterloo, Iowa, at her office in the City Hall of the said City on the 29th day of August 2019, until 1 :00 p.m. for the construction of the FY2019 Young Arena Roof Replacement Project, Contract No. 998 as described in detail in the plans and specifications now on file in the Office of the City Clerk. OPENING OF BIDS All proposals received will be opened in the First Floor Conference Room at City Hall, in the City of Waterloo, Iowa, on the 29th day of August 2019, at 1 :00 p.m., and the proposals will be acted upon at such later time and place as may then be fixed by the City Council. PUBLIC HEARING The Council of said City will conduct a public hearing on the proposed plans, specifications, form of contract, and estimate of cost for the construction of the above-described improvement project at 5:30 p.m. on September 9, 2019, said hearing to be held in the Harold E. Getty Council Chambers in City Hall in said City. SCOPE OF WORK The extent of the work involved is replacement of the Young Arena West and East mechanical single-ply roof systems located at 125 Commercial Street, Waterloo, Iowa. BEGINNING AND COMPLETION DATES The work under the proposed contract shall be commenced within ten (10) working days after receipt of "Notice to Proceed". All work associated with Base Bid and Alternate Bids 01 , 03, 04, 06, 08, and 09 shall be completed on or before June 15, 2020. If the Owner awards Alternate Bids 02, 05, and/or 07, the associated work shall begin on the specified start date and shall be completed on or before October 15, 2020. NOTICE TO BIDDERS Page 1 of 4 METHOD OF PAYMENT TO CONTRACTOR The Contractor will be paid against bi-monthly estimates in cash on the basis of ninety-five percent (95%) of the work as it is completed and materials delivered and work approved. Final payment will be made thirty-one (31) days after completion of the work and acceptance by the Council. Before final payment is made, vouchers showing that all subcontractors and workmen and all persons furnishing materials have been fully paid for such materials and labor will be required unless the City is satisfied that material, men and laborers have been paid. ., The Contractor is hereby notified that if the City does not have cash on hand to pay monthly pay estimates, according to Chapter 384.57 of the Code of Iowa, payment may be made by anticipatory warrants issued bearing a rate of interest not exceeding that permitted by Chapter 74A, Code of Iowa. PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS Plans and Specifications governing the construction of the proposed improvements have been prepared by City, which plans and specifications and also the prior proceedings of the City Council referring to and defining said proposed improvements are hereby made a part of this notice, and the proposed contract by reference shall be executed in compliance therewith. Plans and Specifications are available from Rapids Reproduction/Technigraphics, 6201 Chancellor Drive, Cedar Falls, IA 50613; 319-277-5538. Deposits will be refunded if the plans are returned in usable condition (i.e. generally free of highlights, ink markings, tears, stickers, water stains and soiling) to the City of Waterloo, 1101 Campbell Avenue, Waterloo, IA 50701 or Rapids Reproduction/Technigraphics, 6201 Chancellor Drive, Cedar Falls, IA 50613, by the end of the 14th consecutive day after the project has been awarded. No deposits will be refunded for any requests or plans received after the 14th consecutive day, which includes plans returned via mail service. Plan holders are responsible for ascertaining when the project has been awarded. If the plan holder is the prime contractor or a subcontractor or supplier of the prime contractor that has been awarded the project, Plans and Specifications do not need to be returned to receive the deposit. The prime contractor must submit a list of his subcontractors and suppliers for the City to verify eligibility for the refundable deposit. Upon award of project, the prime contractor, his subcontractors and suppliers shall be supplied with the extra plans and specifications returned. Any extra sets can be ordered from Rapids Reproduction. CONTRACT AWARD A contract will be awarded to the qualified bidder submitting the lowest bid. NOTICE TO BIDDERS Page 2 of 4 -- The City reserves the right to reject any or all bids, re-advertise for new bids, and to waive informalities in the bids submitted that might be in the best interest of the City. Bids may be held by the City of Waterloo, Iowa, for a period not to exceed thirty (30) days from the day of the opening of bids for the purpose of reviewing the bids and investigating the qualifications of bidders, prior to awarding the contract. By virtue of statutory authority, a preference will be given to products and provisions grown and coal produced with the State of Iowa and preference will be given to local domestic labor in the construction of the improvement. PROPOSALS SUBMITTED The bidder shall submit a lump sum bid on the items listed in the proposal. All bids must be submitted on the Bid Form supplied by the City. BID SECURITY REQUIRED ti All bids must be accompanied in a separate envelope by a certified or cashier's check drawn on an Iowa bank, or a bank chartered under the laws of the United States, a certified share draft drawn on a credit union in Iowa or chartered under the laws of the United States, or bid bond, (on the form furnished by the City) payable to the City of Waterloo, Iowa, in the sum of not less than five percent (5%) of the bid submitted, which certified check, certified share draft or bid bond will be held as security that the Bidder will enter into a Contract for the construction of the work and will furnish the required bonds, and in case the successful Bidder shall fail or refuse to enter into the Contract and furnish the required bonds, his bid security may be retained by said City as agreed upon liquidated damages. If bid bond is used, it must be signed by both the Bidder and the surety or surety's agent. Signature of surety's agent must be supported by accompanying Power of Attorney. PERFORMANCE & PAYMENT BONDS The successful bidder will be required to furnish a "Performance Bond" and a "Payment Bond" within ten (10) days after forms are presented to him in an amount equal to one hundred percent (100%) of the contract price, said bond to be issued by a responsible surety approved by the City Council and shall guarantee the faithful performance of the contract and the terms and conditions therein contained, and shall guarantee the prompt payment of all materials and labor and protect and save harmless the City from claims of any kind caused by the operations of the contractor. EXPLANATIONS TO BIDDERS - Any explanation desired by a bidder regarding the meaning or interpretation of the Notice to Bidders, Plans, Specifications, etc., must be requested in writing and with sufficient time allowed for a reply to reach bidders before submission of their bids. Written requests shall be simultaneously directed to Travis Nichols of the City of Waterloo and Jason Hackman of Benchmark, Inc. Any interpretations made will be in the form of written Addenda to the Notice to Bidders and contract documents; and will be furnished to all prospective bidders registered with the plan room entity specified in the Notice to Bidders. The bidder must acknowledge receipt of all Addenda in the space provided on the Proposal Form or by letter or telegram received before the time set for opening of bids. Oral explanations or instructions given before the award of the contract will not be binding. II. PROPOSALS SUBMITTED All bids must be submitted on forms supplied by the Waterloo Leisure Services. All Base Bid and Alternative Bid items must be included for the bid to be considered responsive. Before submitting a bid, each bidder shall carefully examine the drawings (if any), read the specifications and all other contract documents and visit the site of the work. Each bidder shall be fully informed, prior to the bidding, as to all existing conditions and limitations under which the work is to be performed and shall include in this bid a sum to cover the cost of all items necessary to perform the work as set forth in the contract documents. No allowance will be made to any bidder because of lack of such examination or knowledge. The submission of a bid shall be construed as conclusive evidence that the bidder has made such examination. The bidder's attention is directed to the fact that all applicable state laws, municipal ordinances and the rules and regulations of all authorities having jurisdiction over the project shall apply to the Contract throughout and they shall be deemed to be included in the Contract the same as though herein written out in full. III. LATE BIDS AND MODIFICATIONS OR WITHDRAWALS - Bids and modifications or withdrawals thereof received at the office designated in the Notice to Bidders after the exact time set for closing of bids will not be considered. However, a modification which is received from an otherwise successful bidder, and which makes the terms of the bid more - favorable to the City, will be considered at any time it is received and may thereafter be accepted. Bids may be withdrawn by written or telegraphic request received from bidders prior to the time set for closing of bids. IV. PUBLIC OPENING OF BIDS - Bids will be publicly opened at the specified time and place for opening in the Notice to Bidders. Their content will be made public for the information of bidders and others interested who may be present either in person or by representative. V. COLLUSIVE AGREEMENTS A. Each bidder submitting a bid shall execute and include with the bid, a Non-Collusion Affidavit in the form herein provided, to the effect that he has not colluded with any other person, firm, or corporation in regard to any bid submitted. B. Each bidder submitting a bid shall have each proposed subcontractor, if any, execute and include with the bid, a Non-Collusion Affidavit in the form herein provided, to the effect that he has not colluded with any other person, firm, or corporation in regard to any bid submitted. Before executing any subcontract, the successful bidder shall submit the name of any proposed subcontractor for approval by the City. VI. MBE/WBE CONTRACT COMPLIANCE PROGRAM/SUBCONTRACTING The program proposes numerical projections regarding utilization of Minority Business Enterprise (MBE) and Women Business Enterprise (WBE) as Subcontractors, vendors and suppliers in performance of contracts awarded by the City of Waterloo, Iowa. A goal of at least 10 percent (10%) for MBE participation on all City funded construction projects that are estimated at $50,000.00 or more. A goal of at least two percent (2%) for WBE participation on all City funded construction projects that are estimated at $50,000.00 or more. Any project funded in part or in total with federal funds shall follow the respective agencies contract compliance program and goals. The Prime contractor shall make "good-faith efforts" to meet the contract Compliance MBE/WBE goals. The MBE/WBE subcontractors, suppliers or vendors must provide the Prime Contractor a reasonably competitive price for the service being rendered. EMPLOYMENT AND BUSINESS OPPORTUNITY (SECTION 3/ HUD ACT OF 1968) To the greatest extent feasible, suppliers, subcontractors, and low income workers owning businesses or living in the Waterloo area must be given priority in supplying materials, bidding for subcontract work, or applying for employment by the contractor on this project. Opportunities for training and for employment arising in connection with this project shall to the greatest extent feasible be made available to lower income persons residing in the project area. The Contract area is the City of Waterloo. The City of Waterloo will require the contractor to document his efforts in securing lower income workers living in the project area and in purchasing supplies from, and awarding subcontracts to, businesses owned by persons residing in the project area. See Section 3 Clause attachment for more information. VIII. STATEMENT OF BIDDER'S QUALIFICATIONS Each Bidder shall, upon request of the Waterloo Leisure Services, submit on the form furnished a statement of the Bidder's qualifications, his/her experience record in completing the type of project proposed, and equipment available for the work contemplated; and when requested, a detailed financial statement. The Waterloo Leisure Services shall have the right to take such steps as it deems necessary to determine the ability of the Bidder to perform obligations under the Contract; and the Bidder shall furnish the Waterloo Leisure Services all such information and data for this purpose as it may request. The right is reserved to reject any bid where an investigation of the available evidence - or information does not satisfy the Waterloo Leisure Services that the Bidder is qualified to carry out properly the terms of the Contract. -A IX. EXECUTION OF AGREEMENT, BOND, AND CERTIFICATE OF INSURANCE A. Subsequent to the award and within ten (10) days after the prescribed forms are presented for - signature, the successful bidder shall execute and deliver to the City, an agreement in the form included in the contract documents in such number of copies as the City, may require. B. Having satisfied all conditions of award as set forth elsewhere in these documents, the successful bidder shall, within the period specified in paragraph "A" above, furnish a surety bond in a penal sum not less than the amount of the contract as awarded, as security for the faithful performance of the contract and the terms and conditions therein contained and shall guarantee the prompt payment of all persons, firms, or corporations to whom the contractor may become legally indebted for labor, materials, tools, equipment, or services of any nature including utility and transportation services, - employed or used by him/her in performing the work. The bond shall protect and save harmless the City and Waterloo Leisure Services from claims and damages of any kind caused by the operations of the contractor and shall also guarantee the maintenance of the contract improvements for the - period stated in the Notice of Hearing from and after completion of said improvements and their acceptance by the City and the Waterloo Leisure Services. Such bond shall be in the same form as that included in the contract documents and shall bear the same date as, or a date subsequent to that of the agreement. The current Power of Attorney for the person who signs for any surety company shall be attached to such bond. - C. The successful bidder shall, within the period specified in paragraph "A" above furnish a certificate of insurance for approval in amounts of not less than the amounts specified in the General Conditions. The certificate of insurance shall be furnished in such number of copies as the City of - Waterloo may require. The City of Waterloo shall be named as an "Additional Named Insured." The contractor shall similarly submit his subcontractor's certificates of insurance in the amounts for approval before each commences work. The contractor shall carry or require that there be Worker's Compensation insurance for all his employees and those of his subcontractors engaged in work at the site, in accordance with State Worker's Compensation Laws. D. The failure of the successful bidder to execute such agreement and to supply the required bond or bonds within ten (10) days after the prescribed forms are presented for signature, or within such extended period as the City, may grant, based upon reasons determined sufficient by the City, may either award the contract to the next lowest responsible bidder or re-advertise for bids, and may charge against the bidder the difference between the amount of the bid and the amount for which a contract for the work is subsequently executed, irrespective of whether the amount thus due exceeds the amount of the bid guaranty. If a more favorable bid is received by re-advertising, the defaulting bidder shall have no claim against the City or Waterloo Leisure Services for a refund. CITY OF WATERLOO, IOWA Waterloo Leisure Services GENERAL CONDITIONS Definitions - Whenever used in any of the Contract Documents, these terms shall be defined as follows: Contract - means the Contract or Agreement executed by and between the City Of Waterloo and the Contractor. Owner or Local Public Agency (LPA) - means the Waterloo Leisure Services. Contractor - means the person, firm or corporation entering into the Ccntract with The City of Waterloo, to construct and install the improvements described in the Specifications and shown on the Plans or Drawings. Contract Documents - means and shall include the following: Executed Contract Or Agreement, Addenda (if any), Invitation for Bids, Instructions to Bidders, Signed Copy of Bid, General Conditions, Special Conditions, Specifications, and Plans or Drawings. Superintendence by Contractor Except where the Contractor is an individual and gives personal superintendence to the work, the Contractor shall provide a competent superintendent, satisfactory to the Waterloo Leisure Services/City of Waterloo, on the work site at all times during working hours with full authority of the — Contractor. The Contractor shall also provide an adequate staff to properly coordinate and expedite the work. The Contractor shall lay out and be responsible for all work executed under this Contract. The Contractor shall verify all figures and elevations before proceeding with the work and will be held responsible for any error resulting from failure to do so. Other Contracts The City of Waterloo may award or may have awarded other Contracts for additional work, and the Contractor shall cooperate fully with other Contractors, by scheduling work under this Contract with that to be performed under other Contracts as may be directed by the Waterloo Leisure Services/City of Waterloo. The Contractor shall not commit or permit any act which will interfere with the performance of work by any other Contractor as scheduled. Fitting and Coordination of the Work The Contractor shall be responsible for the proper fitting of all work and for the coordination of the operations of all Subcontractors engaged upon this Contract. The Contractor shal be prepared to guarantee to each Subcontractor the locations and measurements which they ma/ require for the fitting of their work to all surrounding work. Care of Work The Contractor shall be responsible for all damages to person or property that occur as a result of negligence in connection with the execution of work and shall be reasonable for the proper care and protection of all materials delivered and work performed until completion and final acceptance by the Waterloo Leisure Services. The Contractor shall provide sufficient security, both day and night, including weekends and holidays, from the time the work is commenced until final completion and acceptance, except when work being performed does not require protection. The Contractor shall be responsible for any loss of work, materials, equipment or time due to acts of any person on the project site. Therefore it is the responsibility of the Contractor to determine when security is needed. The Contractor shall avoid damage to existing sidewalks, streets, curbs, pavements, structures, and utilities except those which are to be replaced or removed. Any damage caused by the Contractor's operation shall be completely repaired at no expense to the Owner. General Requirements The Contractor shall be responsible for being informed as to all existing conditions and limitations under which the work is to be performed. No extra allowance will be made because of lack of such examination or knowledge. The Contractor shall not disturb existing walks, drives, parking areas, trees, shrubs, or turf areas outside the limits of the project. If disturbed, these items shall be replaced by the Contractor at no cost to the Owner. Trees and shrubs located in or near the project area shall be protected by the Contractor from damage by workers and construction equipment during time of construction. The City Forester will determine the extent of protection necessary for the trees. Permits and Codes The Contractor shall secure from the appropriate departments of the local government, at no charge, the required building, electrical, plumbing and heating permits. The Contractor shall give all notices required by, and comply with all applicable municipal and state laws, ordinances and codes. Liability Insurance The Contractor shall carry liability insurance which shall save the City harmless and protect the public and any person from injury sustained by the reason of the prosecution of the work or the handling or storing of materials therefore, and said Contractor shall also carry insurance which shall meet the requirements of the Iowa Worker's Compensation Law. The Program does not propose to eliminate any bonafide contractor or subcontractor from bidding on City contracts, but it will hopefully serve as a needed stimulus to help local MBE/WBE's grow and eventually — become mainstream contractors and subcontractors. This Contract Compliance Program does not propose to include any set-aside or quotas, but only flexible goals where"good-faith efforts" are required by the contractor to use MBE/WBE subcontractors. This Program shall not eliminate the need for contractors to continue their "good-faith efforts" in using — MBE/WBE subcontractors on City contracts estimated at less than $50,000. The City Contract Compliance Officer shall send notices to appropriate MBE/WBE firms in the directory of each bid solicitation with opening date. E. The City Contract Compliance Officer will receive MBE/WBE Letter(s) of Intent to Bid and within two (2) business days forward the complete list of MBE/WBE bidders who submitted a Letter of Intent to Bid to prime contractors. IL Prime Contractors In order to be in compliance with the guidelines of this program, the prime contractor must show good-faith efforts in following the MBE/WBE Contract Compliance Program. Good-faith efforts include, but are not limited to, the following: A. '— PART THREE— EXECUTION 3.01 Demolition and Roof Preparation A. Coordinate all aspects of demolition work with Owner's Representative and all other trades. B. Provide protective measures around the roof and building as specified, prior to beginning work. C. Water test all drains to ensure proper operation prior to beginning work. D. Tear off existing roof system to the roof decking. E. Remove fasteners at existing membrane, insulation, carpentry, flashing terminations, and sheet metal components by backing out, whenever possible. F. Remove existing louvers as directed/required to complete associated work. G. Remove obsolete roof penetrations and obsolete rooftop equipment identified on the drawings. Contractor shall verify and coordinate equipment removal with the Owner. Contractor shall perform all necessary service disconnects. H. The Contractor shall complete a daily progress report. Progress reports shall be generated using the form provided, to provide a continuous record of the progress of the work. Provide supplemental documentation of unit price work quantities and locations, as may be required by the Owner's Representative, and attach to the progress reports as instructed. The Owner reserves the right to deny reimbursement for unit price work if the Contractor fails to provide the specified documentation. 3.06 Changes to the Work A. All changes to the work shall be documented with Change Directives, approved in writing by the Owner, Contractor, and Roofing Consultant (Owner's Representative). 3.07 Project Closeout A. Submit written certification to the Owner through the Owner's Representative that the project, or designated portion of the project, is complete and ready for inspection. b. Owner and/or Owner's Representative will make an inspection within 10 days after receipt of certification. Contractor shall provide access to all roofs for inspection, -- where a permanent means of access does not exist. 3. If Owner's Representative considers the work to be complete: a. Owner's Representative will prepare and submit to Contractor a Completion Punch List, listing all items to be completed or corrected as determined by the inspection. b. Contractor shall then complete work listed for completion or correction, sign the Completion Punch List forms, and return one (1) signed hard copy or an electronically transmitted Portable Document Format (.pdf) file to the Owner's Representative. This section is intended to assure adequate planning and execution of the project, to maintain proper facility security and to assist the Owner with eliminating workplace hazards, production disruptions, product damage, and inconvenience. B. The Contractor shall advise all administrative and field personnel, Subcontractors, and material suppliers of the requirements of this section. C. Any delays experienced due to the Contractor's negligence in providing proper notifications and coordination shall be at the Contractor's expense. D. If any conflict should arise over a specific provision of this section, the Owner's decision shall be final. E. Refer to related information on the drawings. 1.02 Qualifications of Project Supervisors A. Individuals supervising the work included in this specification section shall be competent and qualified persons. B. Contractor shall have a foreman or superintendent present on the project site throughout the entire construction project, who is fluent in the English language (both written and verbal), and is capable of clear communications with all crew members, tenants, and Owner's _„ Representatives. 1.03 Submittals A. General: Comply with all related Division 01 requirements. B. Description of Systems 1. Submit complete written description of the proposed procedures for temporary support of rooftop equipment. PART TWO — PRODUCTS 2.01 Not Used PART THREE— EXECUTION 3.01 Coordination with Facility Operations A. The Contractor shall note that the building will be occupied and in use at all times during this work. Contractor shall provide a minimum of 48-hours notice for all activities requiring coordination or action on the part of the Owner or Owner's Representative. 3.02 Temporary Facilities and Utilities A. Temporary facilities provided by the contractor shall include, but are not limited to: 1. Utilities such as heat, water, electricity, and telephone as required. 2. Contractor's facilities. — 3. Temporary sanitary facilities. B. Project Requirements 1. Make all required connections to existing utility systems with minimum disruption to services in the existing utility systems. When disruption of the existing service is required, do not proceed without the Owner's approval. Provide alternate temporary service when required. 2. If required utility is not available from the Owner, Contractor shall provide alternate temporary service for the duration of the work. 3. Owner will provide 110v power. Contractor shall provide all other required electricity. 4. Contractor's access to electricity is to be from supply designated by Owner. 5. The on-site project supervisor shall carry a reliable cellular phone on the project site at all times. 6. Contractor shall provide temporary sanitary facilities in the quantity required for use of all personnel. Maintain in a sanitary condition at all times. C. Maintain all temporary facilities and controls as long as needed for the safe and proper — completion of the work. D. Remove all such temporary facilities and controls as rapidly as progress of the work will permit or as directed by the Owner's Representative. E. In situations where the Contractor uses an Owner-supplied power source, the Contractor remains responsible for completing all work on a daily basis should an outage occur. - 3.03 Staging Areas A. Contractor shall perform all material storage and staging activities within those locations approved by the Owner's Representative. B. Staging area(s) shall be determined during the pre-bid meeting. Contractor shall implement measures to protect the staging areas from damage. At the Owner's discretion, any damage to staging areas caused by the Contractor shall be repaired to match the pre-existing conditions at no additional cost to the Owner. -G- F. Furnish and install a temporary rope barricade with flags around all ground level staging areas, equipment, and materials. G. When approved by the Owner's Representative, building entrances shall be blocked-off when pedestrians could be endangered by the overhead construction activities or adjacent ground level staging operations. Where blocking of entrances is not approved, provide alternative pedestrian protection as approved in advance by the Owner's Representative. 3.04 Minimum Roof Protection Requirements A. At a minimum, Contractor shall install temporary 3/4" plywood walkways over moisture resistant insulation on all roof areas where equipment, materials and/or personnel are loaded onto or traverse over the roof system. The Contractor shall obtain the Owner's permission prior to installing the temporary walkways. B. Any damage to roof areas caused by the Contractor's operations shall be repaired at no additional cost to the Owner; whether or not the specified minimum roof protection standards -- are implemented by the Contractor. 3.05 Roof Damage Control A. Contractor shall be responsible for protection of new and existing roof surfaces from construction traffic. Contractor shall be responsible to implement additional roof protection and related activities as they may deem necessary to prevent construction-related damage. B. Contractor shall inspect all areas on a daily basis, and repair any areas of damage before leaving the job site that day. C. Contractor shall be responsible for any damage to the roof system from adjacent work such as, but not limited to, cutting, grinding, welding, scaffolding, moving equipment and materials, wall and flashing work, as well as materials and/or chemicals introduced onto the roof system. Any damage shall be promptly made watertight before leaving the job site that day. Permanent repairs or replacements shall be subsequently performed by the Contractor in an Owner-approved manner, at no additional cost to the Owner. 3.06 Access and Logistical Requirements A. Protect the building from staining or damage where ladders, scaffolding, and chutes are set up against the building. B. Ladders must be removed and secured on a daily basis. C. Protect the building from staining and damage where hoisting operations occur. ..� D. Roof access for Contractor's personnel shall be via the building exterior. Bidders shall research associated permit requirements, barricade/traffic control procedures, pedestrian protection, and time restrictions. All applicable costs shall be included in the Contractor's bid. F. Provide protection and cleaning of all hallways, floor surfaces, and any other areas approved for access. G. Contractor employees shall be required to wear clean footwear whenever inside the building. H. The Owner reserves the right to revoke interior access privileges if Contractor fails to maintain housekeeping or observe other Owner requirements. Roofing personnel shall not enter the building, except to perform their contractual duties, or where approved by the Owner to access the roof. J. Contractor shall protect and properly barricade all access and staging areas. K. Contractor shall only park in the Owner-approved areas. 3.07 Interior Activities A. Contractor will notify the building occupants 48 hours in advance to allow them the time to protect the area before roof debris removal. B. Contractor shall coordinate all work with the Owner's Representative to allow coordination and adequate notification to building occupants. _ C. Contractor's competent person shall be capable of fluent conversation with facility employees, the Contractor's employees, and any Subcontractor's employees. D. Contractor shall provide interior personnel and the rooftop supervisor with two-way radios. Interior personnel and the rooftop supervisor shall maintain full radio contact at all times that the Contractor is inside the building. E. Contractor shall follow these additional requirements at a minimum: 1. Areas Without Deck Replacement or Roof Openings a. Whenever debris or construction materials, could enter the building, or whenever building occupants could be in danger, Contractor shall provide a competent person to monitor interior activities, notify employees of overhead hazards, and manage housekeeping. b. Prior to the end of each days work, the Contractor shall sweep down all floor areas, clean off all elevated areas and equipment, and properly dispose of the debris. 3.08 Relocation of Building Contents A. Contractor shall provide Owner a minimum of 48-hours notice to relocate building contents. — B. Relocation of building contents is at the discretion of the Owner. No additional cost will be incurred by the Owner in the event building contents cannot be moved. C. The Owner will relocate building contents as required to accommodate roofing operations. Contractor shall provide daily progress communications, and coordinate at least 48-hours in- Project No. 19WATWATER002B 8/9/2019 Section 01 35 13 - Page 4 BENCHMARK, INC. SPECIAL PROJECT PROCEDURES SECTION 01 35 13 advance with the Owner. Lack of advance planning and coordination may result in roofing delays. 3.09 Temporary Supports A. The Contractor shall completely and adequately support all conduits, piping, steel framing, and/or rooftop equipment prior to removal of the existing supports. Supports shall consist of steel frames and steel supporting members under the items being supported. Chains or cable supports will not be allowed. B. At the discretion of the Owner, any damage caused by the Contractor during temporarily supporting the rooftop items shall be repaired at no cost to the Owner. .+, 3.10 Work Hours A. Work hours shall be 6:00 am. to 6:00 p.m. 3.11 Noise Control A. Owner will accommodate noise producing construction activities. Provide 48-hours notice to allow the Owner ample time to make arrangements. 3.12 Rain Day Activities A. The Contractor shall visit the project site on all rain days and make all necessary corrections to ensure watertightness of the building and roof system, and proper protection of all materials. rob B. The Contractor's representative shall contact the Owner's Representative prior to leaving the project site on such days. 3.13 Employee Conduct A. All Contractor employees shall conduct themselves in a professional manner at all times. B. Tobacco use, including smoking, e-cigarettes, or chewing tobacco, shall not occur on the roof or in the facility. Comply with Owner's requirements with respect to tobacco use in all other areas of the Owner's property. 3.14 Miscellaneous Facility Requirements A. Steel-toed boots are mandatory. B. Safety glasses are mandatory. C. CONSTRUCTION PROJECT SAFETY SECTION 01 35 24 PART ONE—GENERAL 1.01 Description A. Work Included: To assure the work site environment is safe for the employees of all Contractors, Subcontractors, Consultants, Manufacturer's Representatives, Owner's ,_ Representatives, and building occupants, this section has been written to identify and emphasize the importance of safe working conditions. If any conflict arises over a specific provision or rule, the laws and rules governing that specific location shall be followed. B. The Contractor shall be solely responsible for construction project safety. 1.02 Related Work A. Additional safety-related items may be found elsewhere in the contract documents. 1.03 Standards A. Standards: Comply with all pertinent standards specified in the contract documents, including those listed below. If the building code references a specific edition or revision of an individual standard, then comply with that edition or revision. Otherwise, comply with the latest published edition or revision available on the date the Contractor submits its price proposal to the Owner. 1. Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970. 2. State, County, and City requirements, as applicable. 1.04 Quality Assurance A. Per OSHA 29 CFR 1926.20(b), the Contractor shall make frequent and regular job site safety inspections to ensure compliance with all applicable standards and site-specific safety requirements. B. The first inspection shall be performed no later than the first week of the project. After the first inspection, subsequent inspections shall be performed a minimum of every thirty(30) days, or as required by the standard. MIMES C. A qualified person designated by the Contractor, who has the authorization to take prompt corrective measures, shall perform all inspections. This may be an employee of the Contractor or a Subcontractor. Proof of the qualified person's education, training, and qualifications must be provided for verification, upon the request of the Owner's Representative. D. The Contractor's qualified person making safety inspections shall prepare a report for each job site safety inspection. The Contractor shall submit each report to the Owner's Representative within five (5) calendar days of the inspection. E. Contractor shall have sole responsibility for maintaining the job site in compliance with all applicable regulations, Owner requirements, and the Contractor's pre-job site safety plan/assessment. This responsibility shall apply whether or not the Owner or Consultant is present on the job site. F. The Contractor's competent person, Owner, or Owner's Representative shall all have the authority to stop any witnessed unsafe work practices. Benchmark's review of the Contractor's SDS submittal is for general conformance only. Contractor shall be responsible to ensure that the set of SDS is complete, up to date, and accurate. — 2. After completion of the pre-job submittal process, Contractor shall accurately maintain all sets of SDS on the project site with updated SDS when issued by the Manufacturer(s), or if materials or substances are brought to the project site that were not anticipated prior to the job start. PART TWO — PRODUCTS 2.01 Materials and Equipment A. General: Contractor shall supply all necessary materials and equipment required to complete the work in a manner consistent with a safe work site and as required by regulatory agencies. B. All equipment used on the project shall be in safe operating condition and shall be maintained in a safe condition for the project duration. Equipment found to be unsafe or in disrepair shall be repaired and made safe or shall be removed from the job site and replaced, if necessary, at no cost to the Owner. C. CONSTRUCTION PROJECT SAFETY SECTION 01 35 24 PART THREE— EXECUTION 3.01 General A. The specified safety requirements are broad in nature, by design. The Contractor shall augment the information contained in this section as necessary; with more specific information from OSHA, Owner's safety requirements, material and equipment Manufacturers' safety recommendations, and roofing industry requirements and standards. 3.02 Contractor Employee Training A. Contractor shall provide adequate training for employees to ensure their safety and the safety of others on the project site. Contractor shall provide instruction in the proper operation of power tools, hoisting equipment, and other pieces of equipment employees will be required to use in completion of the work. B. Contractor shall ensure each worker is aware of job and site-specific hazards and of the safety precautions appropriate to each. C. Contractor shall present a safety and loss prevention orientation program to each new .-� employee before that employee starts work. D. Contractor and Subcontractors shall inform their employees of all safety and health rules pertaining to their particular job. E. Contractor and Subcontractors shall inform their employees of location and use of safety devices such as first aid kits, phones, fire extinguishers, etc. F. Contractor shall implement a regular system of work inspection to detect and correct hazardous conditions, safety rule violations, and unsafe working practices. G. Contractor shall ensure that their workers and any Subcontractor's workers participate in any safety orientations or training programs required by the Owner. H. Employees shall be trained regarding any job site alarms, code signals, evacuation warnings, appropriate responses, and requirements for actions that will need to be taken. 3.03 Accident Investigation and Reporting A. Investigating and reporting of accidents is necessary for all Contractors and Subcontractors. An accident investigation and report shall be immediately made by the Contractor's designated competent person on site. Contractor shall provide to the Owner's Representative a copy of the completed Accident Report, Employer's First Report of Injury or Illness, or such other similar reports required by federal, state, county and municipal or local safety laws. All reporting and record keeping requirements shall be in accordance with OSHA regulations. B. Perform investigation and reporting of accidents as required by the Owner's safety requirements and policies, where applicable. 3.04 First Aid A. Contractor and Subcontractors shall be responsible for providing first aid and medical treatment for their employees. The names, addresses and telephone numbers of Contractor's and Subcontractors' doctors, hospital and ambulance services shall be conspicuously posted, as required by law. A suitable first aid kit shall be located at all times on the roof, and shall be conspicuously located and readily accessible at all times. The first aid kit shall be of an appropriate size for MINAN the roofing crew. 3.05 Individual Conduct and Safety A. Contractor's and Subcontractors' employees shall be made aware of and comply with the following rules that will be in effect on all job sites: 1. Alcoholic beverages and illegal drugs will not be permitted. 2. Prescription drugs with side affects that impair an Employees' ability to perform their WNW work duties in a safe manner, will not be permitted. 3. Employees entering job site under the influence or possession of alcohol or drugs will be subject to removal from the job site. -- 4. The carrying of firearms and all other weapons is prohibited. 5. Fighting, gambling, stealing, soliciting, and horseplay will not be tolerated. 6. Abusive language or disrespectful behavior in public areas will not be tolerated. 3.06 Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and Clothing A. The Contractor shall furnish and require the use and wearing of PPE and protective clothing by its employees and any Subcontractor's employees. B. Approved eye and face protection is required to be worn when warranted by the exposure, or where mandated by facility safety requirements. Safety glasses with side shields are required in all circumstances where there is an exposure to flying particles. Plastic face shields are required to be worn for guarding against flying particles and spraying liquids or corrosives. C. Appropriate clothing shall be worn at all times. D. Hard hats must be worn at all times whenever there is a possibility of head injury from impact, flying or falling objects, or where mandated by facility safety requirements. E. Hearing protection shall be utilized where mandated by OSHA regulations or facility safety requirements. F. Protective footwear shall be used where mandated by OSHA regulations or facility safety requirements. 3.07 Housekeeping A. The Contractor or Subcontractors shall maintain good housekeeping standards at all times as an integral part of the work. Daily cleanup of work, lay-up, and personnel areas is required and must be performed. B. Materials shall be piled so that safe clearances are maintained and tipping or movement is prevented. Loose materials on the roof must be secured so that they cannot be blown or bumped off. C. Accumulation of material that may create a fire hazard is not permitted. Never store excessive amounts of material in one place, so as to potentially overload the roof. Project No. 19WATWATER002B 8/9/2019 Section 01 35 24 - Page 4 BENCHMARK, INC. CONSTRUCTION PROJECT SAFETY SECTION 01 35 24 D. Roof areas are to be "watertight at night" at all times during the job. Contractor's or Subcontractors' failure to do so can be grounds for dismissal. 3.08 Signs and Barricades A. When it is necessary to barricade an area for overhead work, to protect personnel from hazardous operations, or to move equipment or cranes, barricades are to be provided by the Contractor or Subcontractors. Barricades must be erected before the work requiring them begins. If the barricades are in a roadway or walkway, blinking lights must be used after dark. When the work is completed, the barricades must be removed from the job site. B. Contractor or Subcontractors are forbidden to remove posted signs. C. Traffic control signage shall be constructed of metal and conform to the latest edition of Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD). 3.09 Fall Protection A. The Contractor shall select and implement one of the following methods of fall protection, in compliance with OSHA regulations. 1. Fall restraint(motion stopping) system. 2. Personal fall arrest system with warning lines. 3. Safety monitor system with warning lines. -- B. The three fall protection methods are listed in order of Benchmark, Inc. preference, with a fall restraint(motion stopping) system being the most preferred and the safety monitor system being the least preferred. C. All plastic domed skylights or smoke hatches, open mechanical curbs, openings in the roof deck, and similar openings or holes which could be potential fall hazards shall be guarded at all times to prevent accidental falls. 3.10 Ladders �-- A. Contractor and Subcontractor provided ladders shall be free of defects. Ladders with split or cracked side rails, damaged rungs, missing feet, or other defects shall not be brought to the project site. Ladders set up near doorways, walkways, or other congested areas must be barricaded or guarded. B. Ladders shall be of adequate length and must extend at least 3' or 4 rungs above the upper landing. C. Place straight ladders on solid, level footings with the foot of the ladder a minimum distance from the wall equal to 1/4 the length of the ladder from the resting point. D. Straight ladders shall have non-skid feet and be securely tied off. E. Face the ladder and use both hands going up or down. F. CONSTRUCTION PROJECT SAFETY SECTION 01 35 24 — H. Roofs not able to be accessed using a 40 foot or shorter ladder must be accessed by alternative means. If access cannot be achieved from other roofs or through the building interior, then an OSHA approved scaffolding tower with access ladder shall be erected and maintained by the Contractor. 3.11 Fire Protection A. Fully charged, inspected and tagged fire extinguishers must be located at all times on all occupied roof sections and staging areas. All fire extinguishers shall be minimum 20 lb., type ABC. At a minimum, one fire extinguisher shall be provided for each 3,000 square feet of roof area under construction. Travel distance from any point of the protected area to the nearest fire extinguisher shall not exceed 50 feet. B. The Contractor shall ensure that all required fire extinguishers are maintained in a fully charged and operable condition, including testing, inspections, and tagging. Fire extinguishers with out-of-date inspection tags shall be removed and replaced immediately. C. Smoking may be prohibited on the job site for various reasons. Employees will be expected to obey all "No Smoking" signs. D. Store all flammable liquids in approved safe containers. Contents will be described and marked flammable. E. Flammable liquids in excess of 10 gallons must not be stored on the roof overnight, unless specific written authorization is provided in advance by the Owner. F. When using flammable liquids to clean, dispose of the rags in approved containers or remove them from the roof daily to prevent possible spontaneous combustion. G. Never store bulk flammable material or liquids closer than 25' from open flames or other source of ignition. 3.12 Electrical Safety A. All electrical circuits shall utilize ground-fault circuit interrupters (GFCI) to protect workers from injury. B. Regularly inspect all power cords. Any defective power cords shall be taken out of service and removed from the job site immediately. C. Only double insulated power tools shall be used. D. Regularly inspect all power tools. Any defective tools, including tools with damaged or repaired power cords, shall be taken out of service and removed from the job site immediately. E. When working on powered equipment, and power must be disconnected to perform the required work, the Contractor shall implement lock-out and tag-out procedures to protect workers from injury. F. Do not set up ladders or stage construction operations adjacent to power lines. If the only available locations are near power lines, implement measures to prevent injury, and coordinate any required outages with the Owner's Representative in advance. Contractor shall comply with the Manufacturer's specifications and limitations. Rated load capacities, recommended operating speeds, and special hazard warnings or instructions shall be conspicuously posted on all equipment. Instructions or warnings shall be visible from the operator's station. B. Accessible areas within the swing radius of the rear of the rotating superstructure shall be properly barricaded to prevent the public or employees from being struck or crushed by the crane. C. All crawler or truck cranes in use shall meet the requirements as prescribed in the ANSI B30-5-1968 Safety Code for Crawler and Truck Cranes. D. Inspect all rigging equipment prior to use (chains, ropes, slings, shackles, etc.). Remove any defective equipment from the job site. 3.14 Public Liability A. Unauthorized persons are not allowed access to the roof at any time. Contractor shall control access to the roof. B. Barricades and signs shall be posted on the ground around the work area to warn the public. C. Locate air intake ducts, air conditioners, or air pumps. Notify Owner's Representative when dust or fumes may be drawn into the facility so that the unit may be shutdown and/or covered. D. At night lock trucks, deactivate hoisting equipment, and take down ladders, E. Park vehicles so that they do not pose a hazard to other traffic moving around the job site. Personnel must be familiar with all OSHA regulations pertaining to the safe operation of this —" equipment. Installers shall use appropriate safety glasses, hard hats, hearing protection, foot protection, and breathing apparatus (where required)while adhering to guidelines relating to fall protection. Installers shall also agree to successfully complete any Owner or General Contractor mandated safety orientations/training (where required) prior to start of project. The Contractor shall provide and maintain all OSHA or Owner required danger signs, guards, and/or obstructions necessary to protect the public and workers from dangers associated with the work. B. Coordinate all work throughout the duration of the project as to minimize disruption of facility operations. C. Contractor shall provide a minimum of 48-hours notice for all activities requiring coordination or action on the part of the Owner or Owner's Representative. 3.02 Interior Protection — General Requirements A. Contractor shall coordinate and schedule all interior protection-related operations to minimize the impact of this work on facility operations. The Contractor shall adjust their operations and work plan as required during the course of the work. Take necessary measures to become familiar with the associated coordination and scheduling challenges, prior to submitting a bid. B. Control of dust and debris shall be accomplished utilizing a combination of materials, methods and personnel. C. Contractor shall coordinate the interior protection schedule and sequence with the Roofing Contractor to ensure that interior protection is completed where required prior to the start of the demolition work. D. Contractor shall, to the best of their ability, conduct all work and operations so the following do not occur: 1. Impede or endanger egress in and out of work areas. 2. Coordinate interior protection maintenance with the Owner's Representative as required to prevent interruption of Owner's operations. Protect Owner's property during interior protection maintenance, as specified for interior protection takedown. 3.03 Interior Protection A. Basis for Design: Specifications are based on installation of the following interior protection ilMER systems 1. SmartSeam by TuffWrap Installations, Inc. 2. IntelliShield by ShieldWorks Inc. 3. If an alternative approved interior protection system suppler is proposed by the Contractor and approved by the Owner, it shall be the Contractor's responsibility to make all necessary modifications to the scope of work to accommodate the alternative system application; while achieving all specified criteria. Pre-job submittals shall demonstrate compliance with these criteria. 4. No additional compensation will be provided for any associated modifications to supplier's standard services required to meet specified criteria. i B. All sheeting shall be installed using the largest sheet size possible. C. All suspended sheeting shall be securely fastened, and supported in a manner to positively contain light dust and debris, and prevent displacement and/or collapse. 1. Utilization of existing wall connections and sheet supports shall be used whenever possible. 2. If no suitable wall connection or sheet support is available, wall anchors shall be installed with a minimum load capability of 50 lbs. 3. Care must be taken to control dust created while installing anchors. D. Site line of suspended sheeting shall be discussed with the Owner to ensure the height requirements meet Owner's needs and installation can be installed with least amount of penetrations possible. E. Where practical, seams shall be cut to install sheeting with least amount of seams and to allow positioning of seams to happen in non-critical areas. F. Suspended cover installed along walls shall be secured every 10' o.c. G. Each tie off anchor shall have a minimum load rating of 50 lbs. H. Hung protection shall have vertical mid-span support a maximum of 14' o.c. Existing structure, equipment, or conduit may be utilized where appropriate or adequate to support a minimum of 30 lb. point load. Where possible, all seams are to incorporate a 360° roll technique, secured and pinned and taped together to create one continuous unit. ;-- K. All typical seams are to be taped with a 5"wide tape including detail work around penetrations. L. All penetrations through suspended sheeting are to be sealed by seaming the sheeting material as close as possible to the penetration and taping with a minimum of 5"wide tape. M. Where interior protection is ended mid-span in a building, extend protection 8' beyond work area, or as directed by the Owner. N. At drain areas, a canvas "funnel" shall be installed. This funnel shall extend a minimum of 3' beyond the drain edges and shall be such as to contain and channel all water and debris into a ground level container. The container shall be sufficient size to accommodate anticipated volume. O. Prior to takedown of suspended interior protection, product or equipment on floor shall be draped with 4-mil plastic (where applicable/appropriate) to provide additional protection from dust and debris. P. Closely coordinate the schedule for removal of the interior protection and associated debris with the Owner. Remove protection as soon as possible following installation of new roof system. Q. Care must be taken to completely contain all dust and debris within the sheeting during its removal, and to protect the Owner's operations from the same. -- R. All tape and support systems used for the installation shall be removed with minimal disruption to existing equipment and personnel. S. B. The warranty start date shall be no earlier than the date the Contractor certifies completion of all Manufacturer final inspection punchlist(s). Warranties issued prior to the Manufacturer's final inspection, such as offered under the Manufacturer's pre-issue or early bird warranty programs, are not approved. 1.02 Manufacturer's Warranties A. The Contractor shall make all necessary notices for warranty purposes to the Manufacturer(s), as required to secure timely inspections and issuance of the specified -- warranties. B. After Manufacturers' final inspections, submit Manufacturers' final inspection reports and/or punch lists, and Contractor's certification that all identified corrective work has been corrected as required by the Manufacturers. If a Manufacturer requires reinspection of an issued punch list, submit certification from the Manufacturer that punchlist items have been completed to the Manufacturer's satisfaction. C. Provide all labor, materials, equipment, and tools to prepare the existing roofing system for the specified work, as designated in the specifications or on the drawings. B. Provide for the proper disposal of all existing materials to be removed, as designated in the specifications or on the drawings. -- C. Provide for the cleanup of excess materials, equipment, tools, and construction debris, as required to maintain the project site in a neat and orderly condition. 1.02 Standards A. Cleaners used in conjunction with surface preparation work shall meet local code requirements for runoff water quality. B. ROOF DEMOLITION AND CLEANUP SECTION 02 41 20 --• PART THREE— EXECUTION 3.01 Protection of Surfaces A. Contractor shall take all precautions during demolition and preparation necessary to protect the building and adjacent surfaces from being soiled or damaged. B. Contractor shall restore to original condition any damage caused during work performed under this section. C. Keep roof surface clean of any debris that might prevent proper drainage. D. At start of each workday, drains located within daily work area shall be temporarily plugged to prevent debris from falling into the drain. Plugs shall be removed at the end of each workday. E. Prior to demolition work, verify that all soil pipes, flues, steel members, and other similar -- penetrations are secured to the building structure. Coordinate removal or securement of all unsecured penetrations prior to the start of demolition work. Vummo 3.02 Debris Handling A. No material shall be dropped to any point lying outside the exterior walls of the structure, unless otherwise approved in writing by the Owner's Representative. B. All material chutes or section of chutes at an angle greater than 45°from the horizontal shall be entirely enclosed. C. On all buildings over 20' in height, debris shall be transported using a fully enclosed receptacle that is mechanically lowered. A fully enclosed trash chute may also be used where appropriate for height of the building. D. Chutes may be job-fabricated or purchased premanufactured. If premanufactured chutes are used, Manufacturer's setup and operating instructions shall be followed. E. When installing trash chutes, proper counterbalance shall be used to offset the weight and use of the chute. If wood boards or metal struts are used, they shall be set up to prevent a tripping hazard to employees. A safety factor of 5 shall be used to determine counterbalance. F. No job site materials shall be used to counterbalance a chute. G. Guard rails shall be installed on either side of the chute, to a distance of 6 feet minimum from the opening. Guardrails shall be installed according to OSHA standards. H. Where the material is dumped from mechanical equipment or wheelbarrows, a securely attached toeboard or bumper not less than 4" thick and 6" high shall be provided at each chute. Additionally, the Contractor shall use a guard around the top of the chute to prevent any debris from falling next to the chute. I. Chutes shall be designed and constructed of such strength as to eliminate failure due to impact of materials or debris loaded therein. 3.03 Disposal A. Throughout the duration of the project, retain all stored materials and equipment in an orderly arrangement allowing maximum access, not impeding drainage or traffic and providing the required protection of materials. B. Weekly, and more often if necessitated by job conditions, Contractor shall inspect all arrangements of materials stored on site and restack, tidy and resecure as required. C. Contractor shall clear the construction areas and shall provide for the removal of all construction debris from the site. Contractor shall not allow the accumulation of scrap, debris, waste material, and other items not required for construction of this work. Contractor shall -- provide storage of all items awaiting removal from the project site, observing all requirements for fire protection, and protection of the surrounding site. D. Daily and more often if necessitated by job conditions, Contractor shall inspect the site and pickup all scrap, debris, and waste material. Contractor shall remove such items promptly, leaving the construction area and site clean daily. E. Contractor shall be responsible to assure that their subcontractors have properly removed and disposed of all debris relating to their contract. F. At the completion of the contract, Contractor shall remove from the project site all equipment, tools, excess materials, and construction debris related to their contract. The latest Manufacturer specifications and installation instructions shall be followed along with the following requirements. These specific minimum requirements must be included in the bid and shall not be altered. B. Inspection 1. Examine the areas and conditions under which work in this section will be installed. Correct conditions detrimental to the proper and timely completion of the work. Do — not proceed until such conditions have been corrected. C. Preparation and Surface Conditions 1. Before insulation application is started, remove trash, debris, grease, oil, water, moisture, and contaminants from substrate to receive insulation. 2. Prepare all surfaces in accordance with applicable specification sections. 3. Protect adjacent areas from damage. 4. Surfaces scheduled to receive insulation shall be free of any standing water, frost, snow, or loose debris. 5. Substrate shall be smooth, free of sharp projections, and free of obvious depressions. 6. All nailers shall be installed prior to installing insulation. Perform all related work specified elsewhere necessary for the installation of the specified roof insulation. 2. Ensure that fasteners do not penetrate conduit or other miscellaneous items located on the underside of the roof deck or spall the underside of the deck. 3. Do not apply insulation materials when water in any form (i.e., rain dew, ice, frost, snow, etc.) is present. 4. Install tapered insulation cricket at the upslope side of each curb that is 18" or wider. Cricket shall extend out half the width of the curb and the cricket's slope shall be twice the opposing field slope. 5. Perimeter, and corner zone dimensions shall be calculated based upon the applicable version of ASCE-7. L-shaped corner zones shall be utilized for all roof sections 60' or greater in elevation. 3.02 Self-Adhering Vapor Retarder A. Prior to installing the insulation, install a vapor retarder as specified in Section 07 26 04—Self- Adhering Vapor Retarder. 3.03 Applied in Polyurethane Adhesive— Bead Application A. Multiple Layers 1. Temperature of adhesive, substrate, and ambient conditions shall be within the Manufacturer's recommended ranges during installation of insulation adhesive. 2. Prepare substrate to receive polyurethane adhesive as recommended by the adhesive Manufacturer 3. Seal around all penetrations and roof perimeters to ensure no adhesive drippage below deck level. 4. Install adhesive over the substrate in beads, as follows: a. OlyBond 500 or private-label versions of this product: 3/4" to 1"wide wet beads. b. Flexible FAST Adhesive: 1/2" wide wet beads. 5. The minimum application rate shall be as listed below. If the adhesive Manufacturer's -- required application rates are more restrictive than those listed, then the Manufacturer's requirements shall be followed. Field -Zone 1: Install beads at a spacing of 12" o.c. Perimeters -Zone 2: Install beads at a spacing of 6" o.c. Corners -Zone 3: Install beads at a spacing of 4" o.c. 6. Bead application patterns, and perimeter and corner areas shall be installed per the drawings and specifications. 7. Any whole or partial insulation board that falls within the perimeter or corner areas shall have the increased quantity of adhesive applied over the entire board. Install bottom layer of insulation with all joints tightly butted and end joints staggered 12" minimum. Insulation shall fit tightly against all adjacent substrate surfaces and penetrations. 9. Areas of damage or missing corners in all layers shall be cut out and replaced with pieces 12"x 12" minimum, adhered into place. 10. Set insulation into adhesive immediately after foam beads have been applied. Do not allow beads to skin over prior to setting insulation. Do not slide insulation boards _. through adhesive during placement. 11. Ensure board adhesion and uniformity at joints by weighting down insulation until adhesive has set. Contractor shall not use rollers for this purpose. Do not remove weights until insulation is firmly attached and movement of boards no longer occurs. 12. If boards can be lifted or moved by hand, they are not sufficiently attached. 13. Additional layer(s) of insulation shall be installed in polyurethane adhesive over preceding layer(s), using procedures specified for the bottom layer. 14. Insulation joints in each layer shall be offset a minimum of 12" from insulation joints in the preceding layer, including all daily tie-off locations. 15. Remove adhesive drips or spillage from all insulation surfaces prior to installing the membrane. If facer damage results, then remove and replace the insulation board. Remove all adhesive that protrudes above insulation board surfaces at joints. 3.04 Verification A. Contractor shall inspect the work described by this section of the specification and shall verify that all components are complete and properly installed. Protection: Use all means to protect the materials of this section before, during, and after installation and to protect the work and materials of all other trades. B. Delivery and Storage: Deliver materials to the job site in original, unopened containers no sooner than 14 days prior to start of job. Package labels shall indicate material name, production date, lot number, and/or product code. Materials shall be stored up off the roof or ground, and covered completely with weatherproof tarps that are securely anchored, so as to resist wind blow-off. When storing materials on the roof, do not overstress the deck. C. Replacements: In the event of damage, immediately make all repairs and replacements to the approval of the Owner and at no additional cost to the Owner. D. Follow the Manufacturer's recommendations for storage of temperature sensitive materials. 1.06 Scheduling A. Work is to be performed on a daily basis with each section completed before progressing to the next day's work, unless specifically directed otherwise by the Owner's Representative. B. Completion of work will be defined as the installation of all specified substrate preparation, primer, vapor retarder, vapor retarder flashings, and temporary tie-ins. C. Comply with maximum length of time the vapor retarder Manufacturer allows the completed work to be exposed to the elements prior to installation of the subsequent roof board insulation system. 1.07 Warranty O A. Warranty: See Section 01 78 36. PART TWO — PRODUCTS 2.01 General A. All materials used on this project shall be compatible with the existing conditions and with each other. B. No product shall contain any asbestos or asbestos-related products. C. Vapor retarder primer, vapor retarder, and vapor retarder flashings used on this project shall be approved by the roofing membrane Manufacturer, shall be compatible with the roof system specified, and shall qualify for the specified Membrane Manufacturers'warranties. 2.02 Vapor Retarder Primer A. All other materials not specifically described but required for a complete and proper installation of the work in this section shall be as proposed by the Contractor, approved by the Manufacturer, and subject to the approval of the Owner's Representative. PART THREE— EXECUTION 3.01 Description A. The latest Manufacturer specifications and installation techniques shall be followed with the following requirements. These specific minimum requirements shall be included in the bid and are not to be altered. 3.02 Inspection A. Examine the areas and conditions under which work in this section will be installed. Correct conditions detrimental to the proper and timely completion of the work. Do not proceed until such conditions have been corrected. 3.03 Preparation and Surface Conditions A. Before vapor retarder installation is started, remove trash, debris, grease, oil, water, moisture, and contaminants from substrates to receive vapor retarder. B. Protect adjacent areas from damage. D. Surfaces scheduled to receive vapor retarder shall be dry and free of frost, snow, or loose debris. E. Substrate shall be smooth, free of sharp projections and free of obvious depressions. —' F. All carpentry, metal fabrications, or other required preliminary work shall be installed prior to installing vapor retarder membrane, where applicable. Refer to Drawings for components to be installed prior to the vapor retarder. G. Vapor retarder membrane shall be inspected and repaired by the Contractor prior to installing roof insulation. 3.04 Installation —General A. Perform all related work specified elsewhere necessary for the installation of the specified vapor retarder system B. Do not apply roofing materials when water in any form (i.e., rain, dew, ice, frost, snow, etc.) is present. C. Specified side lap and end lap dimensions are minimums. If vapor retarder Manufacturer's requirements exceed those stated, then the Manufacturer's requirements shall be followed. D. Temperature of substrate, vapor retarder system materials, and ambient conditions shall be within the Manufacturer's recommended ranges during application of materials. 3.05 Installation — Primer,Vapor Retarder, and Vapor Retarder Flashings A. Priming 1. Prime all substrates to receive vapor retarder membrane and associated flashings at _. the Manufacturer's recommended application rates. Rates vary depending on type and porosity of the substrate materials; but shall not be less than 1/2 gallon per 100 square feet. The primer shall be allowed to dry prior to application of vapor retarder materials. 2. Primer application shall achieve full and uniform coverage, using application procedures recommended by the Manufacturer. — B. Vapor Retarder 1. After primer has flashed-off as recommended by the Manufacturer, vapor retarder membrane shall be unrolled and placed. 2. Beginning at low point of roof slope, apply one layer of vapor barrier membrane '— maintaining minimum 3" side laps and 6" end laps. End laps shall be offset 3' minimum. 3. Roll all sheets in a straight line so that no kinks or fish mouths result and sheets are laid completely flat. Once sheet direction is determined, do not change direction over the entire roof area. Once the membrane is in place, while holding the membrane tight. peel off the silicone release film by pulling diagonally. Membrane shall be immediately rolled with a steel roller or roller wrapped in resilient material, weighing a minimum of 100 pounds. 5. All side and end laps in the vapor retarder membrane shall be immediately rolled with a 2" silicon roller. Full adhesion shall be achieved, and all edges and T-laps shall be well sealed. At all T-laps apply manufacturer-supplied mastic or sealant, as recommended by the Manufacturer. '— 6. Any wrinkles or fishmouths shall be cut out and repaired with new material overlapping 12" minimum onto adjacent material to remain. 7. Any vapor retarder punctures or other damage shall be patched with a new material overlapping 12" minimum onto adjacent material on all sides. C. Vapor Retarder Flashings 1. Vapor retarder shall be flashed watertight and vapor-tight at all roof perimeters and penetrations. 2. Vapor retarder shall be continuous with adjacent building envelope materials, where shown on the Drawings, as required to provide a continuous seal. 3. Install one-ply self-adhered modified bitumen vapor retarder material at base, edges, and curb flashings. Flashings shall be applied according to the Manufacturer's current published application instructions, unless superseded by the requirements of this section. All laps in the flashing materials shall be hand rolled to ensure complete adhesion. Prevent contamination of laps. All corners and angle changes shall be additionally sealed with self-adhering uncured EPDM flashing). 4. All flashings shall be thoroughly rubbed in. Loose or poorly bonded flashings will not be accepted. 5. Laps at corners shall be thoroughly sealed with a heavy tooled bead of manufacturer- supplied mastic or polyurethane sealant immediately after installation. 6. For flashing of vent pipes, gas piping, conduits, and other similar penetrations, EPDM seam primer and self-adhering uncured EPDM flashing shall be used. All edges shall receive sealant. 3.06 Verification A. Contractor shall inspect the work described by this section of the specification and shall verify that all components are complete and properly installed. B. Contractor shall correct any deficient work prior to installing subsequent work. C. Inspect all vapor retarder and flashing seams prior to proceeding with subsequent construction. All loose or separated seams shall be repaired prior to proceeding. D. Inspect the vapor retarder system for punctures or other damage prior to proceeding with subsequent construction. SELF-ADHERING VAPOR RETARDER SECTION 07 26 04 �- 3.07 Repairs and Corrective Work A. Any areas of the vapor retarder system that incurs damaged due to staging of construction work, construction traffic, or other causes shall be repaired to satisfaction of the Owner and Manufacturer. B. Repairs shall be performed during the same workday that damaged is identified. C. Repairs shall be performed by removal of any materials that are not fully adhered, where the vapor retarder or fleshings have been punctured/damaged, or where moisture has passed through the membrane and damaged the substrate materials. Following replacement of the substrate materials, the membrane shall then be replaced. Any areas of damage shall be overlaid with vapor retarder membrane material installed as specified, and extending a minimum of 12" past the damage on all sides. 3.08 Cleaning A. Furnish and install a weathertight and watertight adhered EPDM roof complete, in-place, per the drawings and specifications. 1.02 Quality Assurance A. Standards: Comply with all pertinent standards specified in the contract documents, including those listed below. If the building code references a specific edition or revision of an individual standard, then comply with that edition or revision. Otherwise, comply with the latest published edition or revision available on the date the Contractor submits its price proposal to the Owner. 1. The NRCA Roofing and Waterproofing Manual, National Roofing Contractors Association 2. Manufacturer's published specifications, product data sheets, application instructions, and technical bulletins. 3. Annual Book of ASTM Standards, ASTM International B. Qualifications of Installers: The contractor shall be an approved/certified applicator by the Manufacturer, use adequate number of skilled workers who are thoroughly trained and experienced in the necessary crafts, and who are completely familiar with the specified requirements and methods needed for proper performance of the work in this section. In acceptance or rejection of the work, the Owner will make no allowance for lack of skill on the part of the workers. C. Roofing Inspections: Make all required notifications and secure all required inspections by the Manufacturer of the approved materials to facilitate issuance of the specified roof warranty. D. U.L. Listing: Provide materials bearing Underwriters Laboratories (U.L.) marking on bundle, package, or container, indicating that materials have been produced under U.L.'s classification and follow-up service. E. The Contractor shall not subcontract the installation of the roof system covered under this specification to an individual or a firm that is not a full-time employee of the Contractor's company. Prefabricated, self-adhering EPDM pitch pockets are not approved. B. All other materials not specifically described but required for a complete and proper installation of the work in this section shall be as selected by the Contractor, approved by the Manufacturer, and subject to the approval of the Owner. Surfaces scheduled to receive roofing are to be free of any water, frost, snow, or loose debris. B. Substrate is to be smooth, free of sharp projections, and free of obvious depressions. C. All necessary metal fittings are to be in-place before roofing. D. All required nailers shall be securely installed prior to roofing. E. Do not proceed with the installation when surface temperatures are less than 40°F. -- 3.04 Installation —General A. ADHERED EPDM ELASTOMERIC SECTION 07 53 23.04 MEMBRANE ROOFING B. Ensure that fasteners do not penetrate conduit or other miscellaneous items on the underside of the roof deck. C. On projects at high altitudes (6,000 feet and above), rapid flash-off of adhesives, cements, and primers will occur due to low atmospheric pressure. This needs to be considered during bidding and application. D. Certain combinations of temperature and humidity may cause condensation on the surface of solvent-based products. If this condition occurs, do not mate the surfaces. When the ambient air-conditions no longer cause condensation, apply additional material and proceed. E. All surfaces scheduled to receive membrane or flashing must be free of physical contact with any bituminous surfaces, clean, and smooth. 3.05 Installation of Roofing Membrane A. Unroll and position roofing membrane, without stretching, over the approved substrate. Membrane laps shall be installed in a shingled manner in the direction of drainage. Allow roof membrane to relax a minimum of 30 minutes before seaming or attaching to substrate. As ambient air temperatures decrease, relaxation time shall increase. B. When placing the membrane, ensure factory and field fabricated seams do not intersect drain sumps. Seams through drain sumps will not be approved. C. Fold membrane back approximately in half so as to expose the underside. Sweep the mating surface and insulation to remove contaminants. D. Apply bonding adhesive with an approved, solvent-resistant roller to both the underside of the membrane and the insulation. Keep bonding adhesive out of seam area. Bonding adhesive shall be applied at rates directed by the Manufacturer. E. Allow bonding adhesive to flash off until tacky. Roll the coating portion of the sheet into the coated substrate slowly and evenly to avoid wrinkling. F. Repeat the process on the remaining half sheet. - G. Overlap each successive sheet at side laps and all end laps the width of the seam tape being used. Sheets shall be spliced so that the splice is not less than 5-1/2" for 6" tape or 6-1/2" for 7"tape. H. All seams shall be cleaned prior to seaming. Change cleaning pads and membrane cleaner often. I. After required seam cleaning, apply seam primer and allow to dry. J. After primer has dried, apply splice tape and press onto lower sheet. Peel release paper and allow upper sheet to fall onto splice tape. Immediately roll seam with 2" silicon roller. K. On a daily basis, seams shall be checked for voids or other deficiencies, repairs made, and lap seam sealant applied where required. L. All T-joints at factory seams and field formed seams shall be covered with a minimum 6" diameter, self-adhering, uncured EPDM patches. T-joints shall be covered per Details I or J. Repair all cuts, punctures, wrinkles within 18" of seams or wrinkles running toward seams. All wrinkles shall be cut out and patched. Seam cleaner, seam primer, semi-cured self-adhering EPDM, and lap sealant shall be used for all repairs. All cuts and punctures shall be repaired the same day they are discovered. N. For cold weather application procedures, refer to the Manufacturer's specifications for additional requirements. 3.06 Membrane Securement A. Securement shall be provided at all roof perimeters, curbs, pipes, changes in plane greater than 15° and other locations as shown on the detail drawings. B. Securement shall be achieved as follows: 1. Concealed Reinforced Membrane Strips a. Install 6"wide reinforced membrane strip along base of flashing substrate and fasten with seam plates or batten strips, and the appropriate fasteners to the deck or vertically into the wall. Horizontal or vertical fastener placement shall be as shown on the detail drawings. Spacing of the fasteners shall be 6" o.c. maximum. '" 1) For horizontal attachment, the reinforced strip must be positioned a minimum 1/8" to a maximum of 1" away from the angle change. 2) For vertical attachment, the reinforced strip must be attached to the vertical wall and must extend a minimum of 3" onto the horizontal substrate. b. Adjacent sections of the reinforced strip shall not be overlapped. Gaps between adjacent sections shall not exceed 1". c. Clean and prime the underside of the membrane prior to removing release paper from integral seam tape. — d. To splice the membrane to the reinforced strip, follow standard splicing procedures. e. At the base of the angle change, all upturned membrane (flashing) seams shall be covered with a 12" x 12" self-adhering, uncured EPDM patch. 2. Plates or Batten Strips with Fasteners a. Where the use of concealed reinforced stripping is not feasible, membrane plates or batten strips with appropriate fasteners shall be used in a Manufacturer-approved manner. b. Fasteners shall be installed horizontally into the structural deck or vertically into walls or curbs. c. Fastener spacing shall be 6" o.c. maximum starting 6" minimum from inside and outside corners. At metal fascia edges, membrane shall be turned down over the roof edge and onto the wall 2" minimum below the bottom nailer. The membrane shall be secured with the continuous cleat on the vertical and the metal fascia flange on the horizontal. 4. At prefabricated fascia details, the membrane shall be turned down over the roof edge and onto the wall 2" minimum below the bottom nailer. The membrane shall be secured with the anchor bar component. 3.07 Flashings A. Flashings shall be constructed and terminated as per the detail drawings. The specified water cutoff sealant shall be applied behind the top edges of the flashings. The top edges of flashings shall be fastened per the Manufacturer's requirements at a minimum, unless superseded by the detail drawings. B. Cured EPDM membrane shall be used for base flashings, wherever possible. C. All flashings shall be 8" minimum in height above the field membrane. D. Edge metal shall be flashed using self-adhering, semi-cured or uncured EPDM, as recommended by the Manufacturer. E. Uncured EPDM flashing shall be used at scuppers, pitch pans, vent pipes, and other irregularly shaped penetrations. F. Pre-manufactured, self-adhering, EPDM pipe boots shall be used in lieu of field wrapping of pipes wherever possible. G. All base flashings shall be totally bonded to the substrate. Loose, wrinkled. or poorly bonded flashings will not be accepted. H. Flashing seams shall be constructed by cleaning and priming the seam areas and installing a minimum 6" splice tape, per Details K and L. 3.08 Roof Drains A. Remove all existing roofing materials from the drain bowl and clamping ring. Wire brush drain and clamping ring flanges down to cast iron surface. B. Position the membrane over the drain ensuring no factory or field fabricated seams are located within the sump. C. Cut hole with 1/2" to 3/4" membrane extending past drain bolt locations. D. Cut holes in the membrane for the bolts to penetrate through. Do not cut notches back to the bolt locations. E. Apply water cutoff sealant over the drain bowl flange. F. Install the clamping ring and tighten all bolts to achieve complete compression. All bolt locations shall be functional. G. Prior approval from the Owner's Representative is required for pitch pan use at any other location. B. Prime interior of pitch pan and penetration with polyurethane primer. C. Fill lower portion of pitch pan with concrete and allow top to dry. Fill top 2"with an acceptable pourable sealer. 3.10 Roof Walkways A. Walkways and walk pads shall be installed in a neat, orderly fashion and where indicated on roof plan or in specifications. B. Chalk line walkway location on roof membrane and position walk pads in-place, using chalk line as a guide. C. Install walk pads with 2" gap between pads to allow for drainage. D. Walk pads shall be adhered to the membrane with seam tape per Manufacturer's recommendations. 3.11 Temporary Water Cutoffs A. Temporary water cutoffs are to be constructed at the end of each working day to protect the insulation, roofing, building, and building interior from damage due to wind, snow, and rain. B. Contractor shall provide methods and materials compatible with the membrane, to provide a positively adhered weather and watertight seal, capable of withstanding inclement weather and ponded water. C. Construction of temporary water cutoffs is to be detailed by the Contractor and approved by the Manufacturer and the Owner's Representative. D. Temporary water cutoffs and contaminated membrane shall be neatly trimmed and removed at the start of the next workday. 3.12 Verification A. Contractor shall inspect the work described by this section of the specification and shall verify that all components are complete and properly installed. B. Contractor shall correct any deficient work prior to installing subsequent work or notification of completion. 3.13 Cleaning A. Sheet metal shall be formed accurately to sheet shapes as indicated on the drawings and in conformance with details on the approved shop drawings. Contractor shall be responsible for all dimensions. B. Counterflashing shall be furnished where indicated on drawings. Form counterflashing sections not less than 8'0" in length, unless otherwise approved prior to fabrication and installation. Counterflashing shall overlap base flashing a minimum of 3". C. Coping caps and edge metal shall be furnished where indicated on drawings. Form coping and edge metal in sections not less than 8'0" in length, unless otherwise approved prior to fabrication and installation. D. Where loose lock lap joints are specified on the drawings, adjacent sections of metal shall overlap a minimum of 3". E. Where joint covers are specified on the drawings, they shall be slightly larger than the primary component to ensure a proper fit. Edges of joint covers shall be tipped toward primary component to form a compression seal. F. Miter all inside and outside corner joints in coping caps, edge metal, and expansion joints. Joints adjacent to inside and outside corners shall be placed exactly 24" each direction from the corner, unless otherwise approved prior to fabrication and installation. G. Break counterflashing, coping cap, or edge metal sections where they cross building expansion joints, if applicable. H. Horizontal flanges of edge metal, lead flashings, pitch pans, lower flanges, pipe jacks, etc., shall be 4" minimum with rounded corners. All exposed edges of cut sheet metal shall be folded back on concealed surfaces. J. Form, fabricate, and install all sheet metal so as to adequately provide for expansion and contraction in the finished work. K. Continuous clips shall be fabricated using metal material of greater thickness than the components being secured. ._ 1. Refer to 2.03 Materials Specifications for criteria. L. Where a continuous clip is specified on the drawings, the primary component shall be continuously crimped along the bottom edge of the clip. 3.03 Dissimilar Metals -- A. Dissimilar materials in contact, which are subject to electrolysis, shall be protected against such action prior to installation. Protective materials shall not be visible after installation. SHEET METAL FLASHING AND TRIM SECTION 07 62 00 3.04 Weatherproofing A. Finish all sheet metal watertight and weathertight where so required. B. Where lap seams do not have a joint cover, lap 3" minimum according to pitch. C. Make all lap seams in the direction of the water flow. D. Where roof membrane is not already carried over top of parapet wall, expansion joint blocking, etc., the top of each shall be covered with sheet waterproofing underlayment(or the flashing membrane material if the roof system is a single-ply). The membrane shall be adhered to the substrates unless otherwise shown on the drawings, and shall make the wall or curb watertight until the sheet metal components are installed over it. All laps in the membrane material shall be seamed watertight per the Manufacturer's published installation instructions. 3.05 Joints A. Join parts with rivets or sheet metal screws where necessary for strength or stiffness. B. Provide suitable watertight expansion joints for all sheet metal as required for proper installation in accordance with the schedule of roof-related sheet metal and detail drawings. C. Sealant application shall be neatly and thoroughly performed for a watertight seal. Sealant shall be installed within all loose lock joints, under joint cover plates, and in other locations shown on the drawings. All exposed sealant joints shall be dry tooled to the profile shown on the detail drawings. If required, Contractor shall build custom tools on job site to provide the specified profile(s). D. Surfaces to receive sealant shall be thoroughly cleaned as recommended by the sealant Manufacturer. All bitumen coating materials, roof cement, adhesive residue, rust, old caulking and/or other contaminants shall be removed down to the substrate to which sealant bonding is intended. E. All surfaces to receive sealant shall be primed initially with the sealant Manufacturer's recommended primer. F. Provide solder joints where noted on the drawings. -- 1. Clean surfaces to be soldered, removing oils, oxidation, and foreign matter. 2. Roughen surfaces to be soldered with course abrasive paper. For galvanized steel, remove zinc coating from areas to be soldered. 3. Brush on flux, limiting application to just those surfaces to receive solder. 4. Pre-tin edges to be soldered, 1.5"wide. 5. Heat surfaces to receive solder with a large iron, and flow solder into joint. Do not use torches for soldering. Fill joint completely. 6. After soldering, promptly and completely remove flux and spatter from exposed surfaces. 7. Restore zinc coating on galvanized components after soldering. G. All clips and cleats are to be fastened 6" o.c., unless otherwise noted on the drawings. C. On the roof facing side, copings are to be fastened 12" o.c. with EPDM washered fasteners, unless noted otherwise on the drawings. D. Do not fasten adjacent coping, counterflashing, or edge metal sections together at laps or at joint covers, so as to limit expansion/contraction ability. Fasten through center of joint cover through butt joint gap between primary component sections. E. The specified spacings for all fasteners in perimeter metal work shall be reduced by a factor of two in the corner zones of each roof section. Corner zones shall be as calculated based upon the applicable version of ASCE-7. F. For concealed fastening into wood, use annular ring shank roofing nails. G. For fastening into concrete, use masonry/concrete anchors with EPDM washers. Use only metal anchors. Plastic or nylon anchors shall not be used. H. For exposed fastening into wood, use screws with EPDM washers. Deformed shank nails shall not be used. Ensure that fasteners are not overdriven such that EPDM washer damage results. Remove and replace all such damaged fasteners, using oversized fasteners. 3.07 Protection A. Roof surfaces and flashing shall be adequately protected to prevent damage during the installation of metal work or during storage of the required materials. SUPPORT SYSTEMS SECTION 07 72 65 PART ONE—GENERAL 1.01 Description A. Work includes designing, manufacturing, furnishing and installing rooftop equipment support systems. B. Where specified, rooftop equipment shall be supported by an engineered prefabricated portable system specifically designed to be installed on the roof without roof penetrations, flashing or damage to the roofing material. The system shall consist of recycled rubber, plastic, or metal bases; structural steel frame; and suitable hangers and supports. The system shall be custom designed by the support Manufacturer to fit the rooftop equipment and the actual conditions of service. 1.02 Quality Assurance A. Manufacturer: Company specializing in pipe support systems engineering, design, and manufacturing, with a minimum of 5 continuous years of documented experience. B. Standards: Comply with all pertinent standards specified in the contract documents, including those listed below. If the building code references a specific edition or revision of an individual standard, then comply with that edition or revision. Otherwise, comply with the latest published edition or revision available on the date the Contractor submits its price proposal to the Owner. 1. Manufacturer's published specifications, product data sheets, application instructions, and technical bulletins. 2. ANSI/MSS SP-69 3. MSS SP-58 4. Annual Book of ASTM Standards, ASTM International C. Qualifications of Installers: Use adequate number of skilled workers who are thoroughly trained and experienced in the necessary crafts, and who are completely familiar with the specified requirements and methods needed for proper performance of the work in this section. In acceptance or rejection of the work, the Owner will make no allowance for lack of skill on the part of the workers. D. Protect roof surfaces in material storage and support erection locations. C. Use all necessary means to protect the materials in this section before, during, and after installation and to protect the work and materials of all other trades. D. In the event of damage, immediately make all necessary repairs and replacements subject to the approval of and at no additional cost to the Owner. 1.05 Scheduling A. Coordinate support installation with installation of roof system. 1.06 Warranty A. Warranty: See Section 01 78 36. PART TWO—PRODUCTS 2.01 Acceptable Manufacturers A. Portable Pipe Hangers, Inc. B. Miro Industries, Inc. 2.02 Components A. Bases 1. Rubber, polycarbonate, stainless steel, or galvanized steel, as supplied standard by the support Manufacturer. 2. Base shall be Manufacturer's standard size, and as designed for weight of equipment to be supported, fabricated in the shop with inserts for support members as required. B. Framing '— 1. Hot dipped galvanized framing as supplied standard by the support Manufacturer. C. Pipe Supports and Hangers 1. Metal supports and hangers shall be fabricated of carbon steel where framing is carbon steel, and of stainless steel where framing is stainless steel. Rollers, clevis hangers, or band hangers shall be used as recommended by the Manufacturer for the size of pipe being supported, allowing for expansion and contraction without movement of the bases. 2.03 Accessories _ A. Provide all clamps, hangers, bolts, nuts, washers, and other devices as required for a complete system. Provide galvanized accessories where framing is galvanized and stainless steel accessories where framing is stainless steel. -- 2.04 Finishes A. Galvanized surfaces: Hot dip galvanize metal framing, supports, and hangers, after fabrication is completed, and produce coatings free of roughness, whiskers, unsightly spangle, icicles, runs, barbs, sags, droplets, and other surface blemishes. Galvanizing shall conform to ASTM A 123 for tubing and ASTM A 153 for hardware and accessories. B. Bases: Black color for rubber/plastic or polycarbonate bases. PART THREE—EXECUTION 3.01 Description A. The latest Manufacturer specifications and installation instructions shall be followed along with the following requirements. These specific minimum requirements must be included in the bid and shall not be altered. 3.02 Inspection A. Examine the areas and conditions under which work in this section will be installed. Correct conditions detrimental to the proper and timely completion of the work. Do not proceed until such conditions have been corrected. B. Verify that roofing system is complete and that roof surfaces are smooth and flat and are ready to receive work. 3.03 Preparation and Surface Conditions A. Prepare all surfaces according to applicable specification sections. B. Protect adjacent areas from damage with tarps or other durable materials. C. Use care in installation of portable pipe support systems not to damage roofing, flashing, equipment, or related materials. D. Substrate shall be smooth, free of sharp projections, and free of obvious depressions. E. Clean surfaces of roof to receive portable support bases. Remove dirt, dust, oils, and other foreign materials. —" 3.04 Installation A. Perform all related work specified elsewhere necessary for the installation of the specified support system. Bases and support framing shall be located as indicated on drawings and as specified herein. The support of all equipment and piping shall be complete and adequate, whether or not all required devices, equipment and piping are shown. C. The use of wood or wire for supporting equipment and piping will not be permitted. D. Deflection of equipment and piping shall not exceed 1/240th of the span. E. Framing system shall be installed at designed spacings, but in no case shall spacing be greater than 10' o.c. F. Accurately locate and align bases. G. Set framing posts into bases and assemble framing structure as required. H. Use galvanized hardware for all connections. Trim all the thread support rods to be 1/2" maximum above nuts. Protect roof surface from damage and immediately dispose of related debris. 3.05 Verification A. Contractor shall inspect the work described by this section of the specification and shall verify that all components are complete and properly installed. B. Contractor shall correct any deficient work prior to installing subsequent work or notification of completion. 3.06 Cleaning A. Remove all packaging, unused fasteners, adhesive, and other installation materials from site. B. Remove adhesive from exposed surfaces of supports, pipes, and bases, and leave work in clean condition. C.
