SCHMITT CHANGE ORDER #2 — CARBON MONOXIDE SENSORS
Ward 1
CAROLYN Two weeks ago a dangerous situation developed at the Five Sullivan Brothers
COLS Ward Z Convention Center. The facility became filled with carbon monoxide!
HAROLD The situation was resolved and investigated. The results are:

❖ The fresh-air damper now works with the new mechanical upgrade to bring in
JOHNA. air to support the heating and cooling of the building. This is good because
KINCAID energy is saved.
Ward + When the boiler is running and the wind is out of the northwest, north or
RON northeast, the gases from the boiler stack are pulled into the building when
WELPER the dampers are open—thus causing the high level of carbon monoxide.

BOB There are three (3) solutions.

At-Large 1. Raise the stack for the boilers another thirty (30') feet at a cost of about
ERIC $25,000.
GUNDERSON 2. Close all outside air dampers, like they were, and use excessive energy
At-Large to make the building comfortable.
3. Install C.O. sensors in the five (5) air handlers in the air-intake duct. The
damper system will work to maintain maximum efficiency of the HVAC
system. But, in the event the wind shifts, that may cause boiler exhaust
to be pulled into the building. The sensors will close the dampers and
start the chillers, if necessary, to maintain comfort in the facility.
The best way to proceed is to install carbon monoxide sensors in the five (5) air
handlers—at a total cost of$3,303.
