Head Signature: - # of Attachments: 3 SUBJECT: Chamberlain Waterline kill bid approval Submitted by: Noel Anderson Recommended City Council Action: To approved the Chamberlain waterline kill bid submitted by Peterson Contractors, Inc. in the amount of$21,000. Summary Statement During the cleanup and demolition of the former Chamberlain site it was discovered that there is a 6"waterline that serviced the Chamberlain site that runs from the site along the railroad and under E 4th Street to the west site of the street. Expenditure Required The low bid is $21,00 dollars. Source of Funds The entire cost of the project would be paid out the Iowa Department of Economic Development Brownfield Grant($175,000) Policy Issue Chamberlain Demolition Alternative Leave abandoned line in place and risk bursting and damage to railroad line Background Information: Due to the close proximity to the Chicago Central&Pacific Railroad line, it has been deemed necessary to remove the existing railroad crossing signals to kill the service line.As a result an agreement was necessary with the railroad company.The project is to be coordinated with the East 4`h Street reconstruction project to eliminate closing E 4th Street twice.
