2009 TIBBITTS BASEBALL COMPLEX FENCING PROJECT
BID REQUEST
The Waterloo Leisure Services Commission is seeking bids for new fencing at the
Tibbitts Baseball Complex located at Cedar Bend and Donald Streets in Waterloo.
Sealed bids are due 4:00 p.m., Monday, July 20, 2009, to the City Clerk at her
office at City Hall, 715 Mulberry St., Waterloo, Iowa, 50703. Bids will be
opened at 5:30 p.m., Monday, July 20, 2009, in City Hall, Waterloo, Iowa, during
the Council Meeting. All sealed bids must be on the Waterloo Leisure Services
Bid Form.

SPECIFICATIONS
2009 TIBBITTS BASEBALL COMPLEX FENCING PROJECT
The Contractor shall provide all new materials and labor to backstop and sideline and outfield fencing as
specified at the Tibbitts Baseball Complex.
BACKSTOP
One (1) diamond will be constructed with the following:
• One (1) new middle sections each measuring 25 ft x 16 ft high and two (2) side sections 30 ft x 16
ft high.
• New 9 gauge knuckle-to-knuckle galvanized fence fabric with tension bars and clamps.
• Corner and end posts to be 4 inch O.D., 21 ft in length, 40 wt. galvanized pipe.
• Top, bottom and middle rails 1 5/8 inch O.D., 40 wt. galvanized pipe.
• Intermediate posts 3 inch O.D. 21 ft. in length, 40 wt. galvanized pipe.
• Post holes to minimum 20 inches in diameter, 5 ft deep.
• Four (4) strands #9 gauge tension wire, every 10" horizontally in middle sections
SIDELINE AND OUTFIELD FENCING—(See Drawing)
New with the following
• Two (2) 110 ft section, 10 ft high fencing
• Approx. 510 ft of 6 ft high sideline and outfield fencing
10 FT HIGH FENCING
• New 9 gauge knuckle-to-knuckle galvanized fence fabric with tension bars and clamps.
• Corner posts and end posts to be 4 inch O.D. 13 ft. in length 40 wt. galvanized pipe.
• Line posts to be 2 %2 inches O.D. 13 ft. in length, 40 wt. galvanized pipe.
• Top, bottom, and middle rails 1 5/8 inches O.D., 40 wt galvanized pipe.
• All 10 ft high fencing shall be braced—using 1 5/8 inch galvanized pipe from end post to first line
post.
6 FT HIGH FENCING
• New 9 gauge knuckle-to-knuckle galvanized fence fabric
• Corner posts and end posts to be 3 inch O.D. 9 ft. 6 inches in length 40 wt. galvanized pipe.
• Line posts to be 2 '/2 inches O.D. 9 ft. 6 inches in length, 40 wt. galvanized pipe.
• Top rails 1 5/8 inches O.D., 40 wt galvanized pipe.
• Tension wire along bottom of 6 ft fencing—tension wire shall be 9 gauge galvanized wire, ringed
to fence every 2 %2 ft using galvanized or aluminum rings.
GATES
• Two (2) 3 ft x 10 ft high
• One (1) 14 ft(2, 7-ft) x 6 ft high
• Gates to be new 9 gauge knuckle-to-knuckle galvanized fence fabric.
• 1 5/8 inch O.D. 40 wt. galvanized pipe.
• Diagonally braced.
• Contractor to furnish all hardware including locking hardware.
• Gate posts: 10 ft high gates, 4 inch O.D. x 13 ft in length 40 wt.
6 ft high gates, 3 inch O.D. x 10 ft in length 40 wt.
GATE OPENINGS IN OUTFIELD FENCE
The Contractor shall install two (2)passage ways per diamond, located approximately 1/3 along the
outfield fence (fence to overlap).
SAFETY EXTENSIONS
Diamond,will have extension as follows:
• Two (2) 16 ft sections, 10 ft high fencing 90 degrees off sideline fence (see drawing).
• Two (2) 70 ft sections 4 ft high fencing returning parallel to sideline fence (see drawing).
• New 9 gauge knuckle-to-knuckle galvanized fence fabric with tension bars and clamps.
• End post for 10 ft high fence to be 4 inch O.D. 13 ft. in length 40 wt galvanized pipe.
• End post for 4 ft high fence to be 3 inch O.D. 7 ft 6 inches in length 40 wt galvanized pipe
• Line post for 10 ft high fence to be 2 1/2 inch O.D. 13 ft in length 40 wt. galvanized pipe.
• Line post for 4 ft high fence to be 2 %2 inch O.D. 7 ft 6 inches in length 40 wt galvanized pipe.
• Top, bottom and middle rails 1 5/8 inches O.D. 40 wt. galvanized pipe for 10 ft high fence
• Top rail with tension wire for 4 ft high fence.
• Fence shall have a 3/8 inch adjustable truss rod.
FOUL POLES
• Two (2) foul poles to be 4 inch O.D. 21 ft in length, 40 wt galvanized pipe extending 16 ft above
ground
GENERAL
All posts shall be set in concrete and shall be spaced a maximum of 10 ft. apart. Beveled tension bands
and beveled brace bands shall be required. All tension bars shall be 3/4 in. in width. Pressed steel rail end
cups and pressed steel loop caps shall be used where required. All fence fabric shall be new galvanized
fence fabric. Contractor to dispose of old fencing and posts and debris caused by construction.
CITY OF WATERLOO IS TAX EXEMPT
The City of Waterloo will supply tax exempt form for materials used in the work.
COMPLETION DATE
All work shall be completed by September 27, 2009.
