RESOLUTION NO. 2009-736
RESOLUTION MAKING AWARD OF CONTRACT TO PRIES
ROOFING, INC. OF LAPORTE CITY, IOWA FOR THE
2009 GATES PARK PRO SHOP REROOFING PROJECT,
IN THE AMOUNT OF $79, 830 . 00 .
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WATERLOO, IOWA:
That the bid of Pries Roofing, Inc . of LaPorte City, Iowa,
in the amount of $79, 830 . 00, for the construction of the 2009
Gates Park Pro Shop Reroofing Project, described in the plans and
specifications heretofore adopted by this Council for said
project, after public hearing on published notice required by
law, be and is hereby accepted, the same being the lowest bid
received for said work.
The Mayor and City Clerk are hereby directed to execute
contract with the said contractor for the construction of said
improvements, said contract not to be binding on the City until
approved by this Council .
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 27th day of July, 2009 .

Bids were opened Monday, July 6th from two contractors, Service Roofing of Waterloo and Pries
Roofing of La Porte City. Both bids appear to be in order. The high bid exceeded the low bid by about
30% -a rather large difference. Both bidders declined to bid on the alternate. g N

Pending your review of any applicable City requirements, we recommend awarding the contract to the
lowest bidder, Pries Roofing. 3
The contract amount will be $79,830.

Other project costs above the construction contract would include design/administrative fees, and ,

project contingency. The estimated amount for that construction contingency is typically in the range of 0
8-10% of the construction cost, which we recommend adding to the construction budget. 0

COLE Neither contractor has MJWBE participation. The low bidder didn't solicit any, choosing
Ward 2 to self-perform all tasks, and Service Roofing did make M/WBE contacts but no one
HAROLD replied. Therefore, in light of the circumstances, staff recommends award to Pries
