Y This is to recommend awarding the contract to the low bidder, and authorize

the Mayor to sign the contract for the above-mentioned work. The project
IOHN A. was let by Iowa Department of Transportation on August 15, 2006. The

RON 1- Peterson Contractors Inc. $854,782.38
1h'ELPER 2- Vieth Construction Corp. $936,646.19

BOB Earth Tech's estimate was $709,497.40. We have reviewed the bid
GREEN1vOOL, tabulation and recommend awarding the contract to Peterson Contractors Inc.
At-b,nn. The higher bid price is mostly due to a rise in the price of petroleum products,
and the consultant's underestimation of asphalt base course price. Late
ERIC season letting might have been a factor too. This project is funded in part by
GUNDERSON
1,0,Q,. a $255,000 Iowa DOT Traffic Safety Funds Grant, and $420,000 of Federal
STP-U funds. The balance will be covered by GO Bond funds.
This item will be on the September 25, 2006 Council Agenda.
