San Marnan Dr. &Hawkeye Rd.(continued)
The estimated Police Department reported property damage costs for the 3.25
years as $103,600.00. The benefit/cost ratio is calculated to be approximately
5.59 to 1 . The benefit/cost tells us that for every dollar we spend at this
intersection, we would benefit approximately $5.59. Theoretically, the benefits
may include costs associated with reduced injury and property damage accidents.
The cost breakdown for this intersection is proposed as follows:
State Funds City Funds
San Marnan Dr. at Hawkeye Rd. (U.S. Hwy.20) $30,000.00 - 0 -
TOTAL $30,000.00 - 0 -
Traffic Safety Funding is available through the State of Iowa Department of
Transportation. However, with the increased demand for these funds, we
recommend that the City of Waterloo apply for them. All material costs for these
projects are 100 percent reimbursable from the Iowa Department of
Transportation. The City Traffic Operations Department will perform the design
services and install the necessary equipment at this intersection.
Therefore, we ask that the City Council adopt a resolution applying for funds
under the Traffic Safety Improvement Program. Attached is an application for the
Mayor's signature. This item is proposed to be placed on the next regularly
scheduled City Council Meeting on February 10, 1997.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding this application, please contact
our office.
Sincerely,
Tim Mrozek
