Mr. Fait71nate d Page 3 Mike Magee reported that the trees were in Waterloo and were alive and well, just waiting for the day of the planting. Bev Lind reported that she had made contact with Bob Broshar about the plaque and he had someone working on it. Ed Gallagher called on Don Irwin to report on the publicity. Don indicated that his committee had met and their plan was in place. The contact point for the publicity will be the Chamber of Commerce. A theme has been developed and he and others have met with Hellman Associates, Inc. who are designing a poster with limited editions being available. A logo is also in the works. A brochure is being prepared for general distribution. The brochure will tell all about the commemorative event and can be used for the media as well as the fund raising. Ed Gallagher indicated that he had written Jim Waterbury of KWWL to. seek his assistance in possibling getting coverage of the event on Good Morning America. Don Irwin suggested that banners were a possibility. New stationery needs to be run off with the Chamber address on it so letters can be sent to the media. It is hoped that the Governor can be here. It was suggested that the Gold Star Mothers of America be invited also to send a representative. The next meeting was set for August 13 at 4:00 P.M. at the Library meeting rooms, pending a check with Mr. Gallagher who had to leave the -meeting early. In other business, it was asked if there would be a display area for the restored military vehicles. The wide sidewalk around the convention center was suggested. A question was asked about whether there would be an honor guard. Plans are to have a Navy unit 5 man honor guard, with taps being played, after the 21 gun salute. The cannon salute would be in addition. Don Baker brought up his idea about having a dance on Saturday night for the general public as well as those attending the reunions, with the proceeds going to the committee for costs incurred for the event. It was explained to Don by Mr. Fant and Mr. Chamberlain that the reunion committees have all their plans set and this event would not attract any of their group. It was agreed that timing for an event such as a dance was not appropriate.. The meeting adjourned at 5:00 P.M. Notetaker: Bev Lind
