Mr. Larry P. Burger
City of Waterloo
715 Mulberry Street
Waterloo, Iowa 50703
Dear Mr. Burger:
I am sorry that I was unable to attend the October 27 meeting of the
Commemorative Event Committee.
At the October 13 meeting, we discussed briefly our needs for trans-
portation in the City November 23 and 14. From my telephone calls with
Mr. Will Chamberlain, these are apparently provided for, but I felt that
I should review them with you.
On Friday, Nov. 13: We are asking for buses from. the Holiday Inn at
11:30 A.M. to the Elks' Club for lunch. According to Will, he
is requesting some alternatives from the Elks after lunch as
well as a return trip to the Holiday Inn, such as the Shopping
Mall, Dog Track, Grout Museum, etc. As of November 1, the group
from The U.S.S. The Sullivan consists of 97 people.
Saturday, Nov. 14: We will need transportation from the Holiday Inn to
Sullivan Park for the re-dedication, back to the Holiday Inn area
for those who do not wish to march in the parade, from the downtown
area to the Cedar River Park for the memorial service, from the
Park to the Grout Museum, and from the Grout Museum back to the
Holiday Inn.
At 3:00 P.M., We have tentatively scheduled a brief service at
the gravesite of the Sullivans' family. Our needs for this trip
will depend on weather, number of people who wish to attend, etc.
At the last meeting, I asked about the possibility of having five
sailors (and/or marines) in attendance as an honor guard, and I
am hoping that these men will be available.
I have asked Mr. Robert Serfass to take charge of and being responsible
for checking on buses when we arrive in Waterloo, so he will probably
be checking with you then. We are looking forward to a memorable event
and wish to thank you for your help in making arrangements for us.
Yours truly„,
cc: R.E. Serfass and Ed. Gallagher Paul T. Fant
