Members present: Chairperson Welper, Hart, Cole, Schmitt, Lind, Jones, and Morrissey.
Moved by Hart, seconded by Schmitt that the Agenda, as proposed, be approved. Ayes: Seven.
Motion carried.
Moved by Hart, seconded by Schmitt that request from the Director of Safety Services for
authorization to promote 2 Police Lieutenant from a current Civil Service List, be approved.
Ayes: Six. Nays: One (Schmitt). Motion carried.
Moved by Hart, seconded by Schmitt that request from the Director of Safety Services for
authorization to promote 2 Police Sergeant from a current Civil Service List, be approved. Ayes:
Six. Nays: One (Schmitt). Motion carried.
Moved by Hart, seconded by Schmitt that request from Director of Safety Services for authorization
to appoint 2 Police Officers from a current Civil Service List, be approved. Ayes: Six. Nays:
One (Schmitt) Motion carried.
Mr. Schmitt questioned Mayor Clark regarding the status of the metro collaboration discussion
with Cedar Falls.
Mayor Clark noted he has not done anything with it, but he will.
Mr. Schmitt noted that should the City get to that point of being able to realize some savings
through sharing of positions, he's concerned about filling them and the collaboration discussion
leads to something and then having to lay people off.
Mayor Clark noted that collaboration will be a long process and won't happen anytime in the
near future.
Moved by Cole, seconded by Morrissey that request from Culture & Arts Director for
authorization to begin the Civil Service process for Youth Pavilion Manager and make an
appointment, be approved. Ayes: Seven. Motion carried.
Moved by Morrissey, seconded by Hart that request from Chief of Fire Services for authorization
to make 3 appointments to Fire Lieutenant from a current Civil Service List, be approved. Ayes:
Five. Nays: Two (Schmitt, Lind). Motion carried.
Pat Trelor, Chief of Fire Services, noted that the positions are necessary.
Moved by Morrissey, seconded by Hart that request from Chief of Fire Services for authorization
to appoint 5 Fire Recruits from a current Civil Service List, be approved. Ayes: Five. Nays:
Two (Schmitt, Lind). Motion carried.
With no further business before the committee, it was moved by Hart, seconded by Schmitt that
the meeting be adjourned at 5:13 p.m. Ayes: Seven. Motion carried.
