HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes-5/28/2014MEMORIAL HALL COMMISSION May 28, 2014 5:00 p.m. Veterans Memorial Hall Members present: White, Miller, Hastings, Hockey, Courbat, Ticknor, Dennis, Robinson, McMahon, Mrzlak, and Ambrosy. Moved by Ambrosy, seconded by Miller that the Agenda, as proposed, be approved. Ayes: Eleven. Motion carried. Moved by Miller, seconded by McMahon that the Minutes of April 22, 2014, as proposed, be approved. Ayes: Eleven. Motion carried. Citizens Oral Comments None Treasurer's Report Marcia Courbat gave the current Treasurer's Report. Ms. Courbat reported that the commission has sold 2849 bricks at $50.00 each and 5 bricks at $250.00 each totaling $143,700.00, 2 additional bricks were purchased in the amount of $100.00 leaving the current balance at $8,754.73. She also stated that she wrote an article to the Courier promoting brick sales. Moved by Ticknor, seconded by Hockey to pay invoice in the amount of $100.00 to Black Hawk Memorial for engraving of 4 bricks. Ayes: Eleven. Motion carried. Chairperson's Report Chairperson White stated that the Memorial Day Parade was a success. The presentation made by Garret Gingrich, U.S. Army Infantry Officer, was outstanding and made one be proud to be an American. There was difficulty working with the ROTC volunteers as they were very disrespectful, but the volunteer students from Hudson Schools were respectful and ready to help put up the flags at the cemetery. Next Thursday night is the Honor Flight dinner. Dubuque is no longer participating in the Honor Flight program. Committee Reports Building, Grounds & Operations—Richard Hastings reported that the Military Coalition contacted Memorial Hall to plan a luncheon for Flag Day June 14th, 2014 to be held at Memorial Hall. Mr. Hastings explained what their responsibilities are and also would attend the event to insure all guidelines where followed. Moved by Ambrosy, seconded by Mrzlak that the luncheon be held for the Military Coalition on Flag Day June 14th, 2014. Ayes: Eleven. Motion carried. Mr. Hastings also asked to purchase or check the availability of having an answering machine for Memorial Hall. Education/Historical—Randall Miller reported that he met with former Mayor, John Rooff, and Mr. Rooff purchased two big screen TV's for Memorial Hall. The 60" will be in the upper level and the 40" in the lower level. Mr. Roof has asked that a donation receipt be typed and mailed to him. The members still seek to have another larger TV or possibly a projector and screen for the lower level. The commission decided they would explore some different avenues. Finance/Fundraising—Marcia Courbat working with some local church youth groups to help with Memorial Hall and was disappointed with the results from the leaders. Ms. Courbat presented two invoices from Mr. Hastings to be paid. Moved by Ambrosy, seconded by Hockey for payment to Mr. Hastings for $30.00 on potted flowers and $50.00 for 2 — 5X8 flags purchased from the Amvets store located within Memorial Hall. Ayes: Eleven. Motion carried. May 28, 2014 Page 2 Collections Manager/Registrar-Chairperson Michael Dennis reported that he has 50 refurbished frames/photos and that 27 frames were hung in the upper level and 23 lower level. Mr. Ambrosy thanked Mr. Dennis for his continued effort working with the artifacts at Memorial Hall. Unfinished Business None New Business None.
