Prior to a vote on the above motion, the following comments were heard.
Don Temeyer, Community Planning and Development Director, reported that Parcel
2 is located on the northeast side of the buildings and includes all the burned
out buildings. In answer to a question from Councilperson Greenwood, Mr.
Temeyer stated that typically demolition companies are allowed to salvage items
of value in the buildings. Mr. Temeyer stated that any hoist in the good
building is the owner's property. Councilperson Clark asked what happens to
the soil as the buildings are demolished. Mr. Temeyer responded that the bid
document will request alternates to get rid of unsafe material. The footings
will be removed, and the city will apply for a future grant to remove any
contamination. June 1, 2004 is the anticipated completion date of this
project. It could be a couple of years before we hear from the state on any
