RESOLUTION NO. 2017-05
RESOLUTION APPROVING A HOTEL/MOTEL GRANT
APPLICATION TO THE WATERLOO CONVENTION AND
VISITORS BUREAU IN AN AMOUNT OF $12,000, TO ADD
TWO (2) SCOREBOARDS TO THE SPORTSPLEX
GYMNASIUM, AND AUTHORIZE MAYOR OR CITY CLERK
TO SIGN ALL NECSSARY DOCUMENTS.
WHEREAS, the SportsPlex is becoming a popular venue to host volleyball and basketball
events, and
WHEREAS, there is a recognized need, in higher level sporting events, for two (2)
scoreboards per court, and
WHEREAS, the grant would allow the purchase of additional scoreboards for each court,
and
WHEREAS, the improvements to the facility would allow the Cedar Valley SportsPlex to
continue to grow the market in the sports tournament area, and
WHEREAS, continued growth of these events will generate tourism from outside of the
community and county.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
WATERLOO, that the Hotel/Motel grant is hereby awarded to the Cedar Valley SportsPlex
Gymnasium in the amount of$12,000.
