He is unsure why the Park Board is recommending against the acceptance of the deed. He was not in attendance at the Park Board meeting and the Board president and Parks Superintendent are on vacation this week so he has been unable to get a first hand report on the meeting. McCoy has been working with the City Attorney to provide an acceptable agreement for maintenance of the park area if accepted by the city. The Saint Edward's social concerns committee was notified of the intent by Black Hawk County to sell this property unless accepted by the city. Black Hawk County is unwilling to continue to own the property which has been used as a park area in the Waterloo city limits. The Park Board has raised objections to accepting the property because of the size of the lot, the condition of the equipment, maintenance concerns and it generally doesn't comply with criteria for a city park. Mr. McCoy has worked with members of Juvenile Court Services and the Catholic Worker House to provide for year round maintenance of this property. The agreement has been provided to the City Attorney for review and provides the city with an option to remove the equipment if maintenance doesn't meet the standards set by the parks department. McCoy has also investigated the replacement of the equipment with tot - like brand equipment to minimize risk and maintenance. Mollenhoff expressed his gratitude to Mr. McCoy and the committee for the work and commitment involved in providing this opportunity to young children. He stated that the overall park system probably includes more acres dedicated to golf courses than designated play areas for children. He encouraged the support of this project and stated his unwillingness to turn it down without additional information. After also expressing his support, Jordan made the motion to table the request until further information can be provided by staff and the Park Board, seconded by Mollenhoff. Ayes: Four. Nays: Getty. The traffic flows through the neighborhood towards Sullivan Park at a dangerous speed. There needs to be some manner in which traffic can be slowed for safety reasons.
