The Council of the City of Waterloo, Iowa, met in Regular Session at City Hall Council
Chambers, Waterloo, Iowa at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, May 13, 1996. Mayor John R. Rooff in the
Chair. Roll Call: Getty, Jordan, Krizek, Murphy, Anders, Mollenhoff. Absent: Collier.
Invocation by: Vicki Pospisil, Assistant Director, Urban Ministry
Pledge of Allegiance: Eric Thorson, City Engineer
Mayor Rooff recognized city workers for their contributions to the Cedar Valley Food Bank the
week of March 11, 1996 and presentation of trophy.

carried.

time and place of public hearing, the Mayor called for
that the letters of objection from Arthur Hellum and Donald Davidson be received and
placed on file. Ayes: Six. Absent: Collier. Motion carried.
106619 - Robert Spiering, 1804 W. 4th St, stated that two sections of sidewalk were marked
and there seems to be only one which needs repair. A small chip or raised corner
doesn't seem to warrant replacement.
Harold Andrews, owner of 212 through 224 Byron Avenue, is confused when the required
thickness of concrete changes from four to five inches. He pointed out that it is
very expensive to replace a whole sidewalk out to the curb when the curb is chipped
away because snow plows have struck it.
Sandy Wyant, 812 Marsh, stated that the sidewalk repair on her notice is due to
damage done to the sidewalk as a result of road construction.
Julie Robinson, 1810 W. 4th, reported her letter doesn't correspond to the marks on
her sidewalk. Her sidewalk was also damaged during the W. 4th street road
construction.
Mayor Rooff asked City Engineer Eric Thorson to speak with the citizens and send the
inspection crew back to each location to address the citizens' concerns.
Mollenhoff/Jordan
that the hearing be closed and oral comments be received and placed on file. Ayes:
Six. Absent: Collier. Motion carried.
