Prior to a vote on the above motion, the following comments were heard.
State Representative Bill Dotzier stated that the trail is important for
recreational activity and economic development. Dotzier stated that he has
heard criticism about the amount of money being spent on recreational
trails, but he feels the trail have much more to do with economic
development than anyone realized. Studies have shown that individuals are
taking different vacations of approximately three to four days which the
whole family can participate and which offer cultural settings.
Representative Dotzier stated that the trails should be called recreational
trails as there is more involved than just bicycles. Recreational Trails
can improve the chances for new business by appealing to the people who own
the companies. Representative Dotzier commended staff for moving forward
and keeping support for the trails.
