Motion carried. Nancy Eckert City Clerk COUNCIL WORK SESSION September 8, 1997 5:30 p.m. Large Conference Room Members present: Mayor Rooff, Getty, Krizek, Murphy, Collier, Mollenhoff, Anders. Members absent: Jordan. Moved by Krizek, seconded by Getty that the Agenda, as proposed, be approved. Ayes: Six. Absent: Jordan. Motion carried. Walt Stephenson updated the council on the Metropolitan Transit Authority. On July 1, 1996 MET implemented new fixed routes. With 1,800 passenger boardings per day, it appears that the passengers appreciate not having to transfer. The paratransit system is handling approximately 4 rides per hour per vehicle. MET has been holding expenses, federal funds have been reduced, a $189,000 debt has been paid, and there is still a surplus. The surplus has been the result of the following: a $100,000 advance from the City of Waterloo and $15,000 from the City of Cedar Falls, reduction of administrative staff from five to three, decreased services by approximately 5 percent, increased fares from $1.00 to $1.50 and decreased services to Hawkeye Community College. For each $1.50 fare, it costs MET $3.69 and for each $2.00 paratransit fare, it costs MET $9.35. Construction on the Intermodal parking under the 218 viaduct will start this fall. MET will be purchasing buses in conjunction with the Intermodal parking. MET is reviewing purchasing a trolley, transit vehicle or a transit vehicle that looks like a trolley which will be utilized in conjunction with the parking. With no further business before the council, it was moved by Mollenhoff, seconded by Murphy that the meeting be adjourned at 6:06 p.m. Ayes: Six. Absent: Mollenhoff. Motion. carried. The Mayor and Council discussed the possibility of Don Miller appearing at tonight's council meeting. City Attorney Jim Walsh advised that there should be no response to Mr. Miller's comments as he elected to have the court system decide the fate of his property. With no further business before the council, it was moved by Anders, seconded by Jordan that the meeting be adjourned at 6:55 p.m. Ayes: Motion carried. Nancy Eckert City Clerk
